unable to find hmimanager.exe on bin

Angrydad did all of the hard work for us. You don't need a decompiler. You only need a hex editor. There are plenty of free ones out there.
Look in this area of the file 0x00449568.
You'll see the text of the disclaimer screen in english and french. Change some of the french text to "00". Do this until the file is small enough.

Quote: I figured that but I'm not so sure I'm confident in doing it. I need a decompiler as well as a hex editor right?

I'm also just curious WHY I have to do this, I thought everything AD did was in 3.50 so why would my Navi file be to big.

THANKS kennyc, ytsejamr and especially AngryDad for all their help and hard work. If I ever meet you, drinks are definitely on me!

nope. just loaded it on and still no trip computer. It said updating HMIManager.exe then went to the next command prompt. Just loaded it on, and still not there.

The HMIManager from the 120 file was too big, so I tried to take it from the 12c.bin and it took, but it's not showing up.......what gives? Order, should i do back.bmp, navi.exe then HMIManager.exe? I've gone through 4 CD's this morning, I dont want to do it again for the same result!

ok... what version are you using?
Oct 3, 2006 | 03:20 PM

the nav disc is 3.4. I used your hack for the navi.exe, my own image for the back.bmp.
Oct 3, 2006 | 03:23 PM
  #208
ok.. use dumpnavi to put the navi.exe back into the BNHH401A.BIN.

did that work or did it error out?

how would that help for the trip computer though? I thought that's what the HMIManager was for.

I'm so confused right now. I guess I can live without the TC. I got 22MPG out of my last tank with about 95% city driving, so I'm pretty happy. I'll do it again when I have more time. I'm acutally getting ready to go to class in about an hour and I got some stuff to read up on....gotta love procrastination!

That's fine and I'll probably figure it out, but I thought the whole intent of the precompiled patch was to make it simple and easy. This adds another step which if I was hex editing I could do the manual version. I'm just curious if I'm doing something wrong since others seem to be having success with the 3.50 software without having to do this.

For those of us running 3.30 (2004 TL) and can't get the patched 3.50 Navi.exe to fit, will you be releasing a patcher that works for more versions?

There is a new thread made by kennyc that does a good job of summarizing the various hacks.

Gosh, I give up. I got the hacks to work but I can't seem to get rid of the 2-4 second lag before the splash screen comes up. I've tried everything and have wasted like 6 CD's. I started fresh with original BIN files from the navigation and updated the BIN file accordingly. I even restarted my car navigation system and radio a few times too.

Anyone?

Success!

Though I'm running the orange 3.30G disc, I was able to use CEbin to repack kennyc's patched and pared navi.exe and it worked.

Woo!

I got mine working much earlier but then ran into issues as I tried to customize the nag text. It wasn't until I realized kenny wasn't kidding, removing the AD from the file puts the navi into a reboot loop.

I guess it is a small price to pay.

FYI, I have to imagine alot of you have DVD burners, you can burn the files to DVD+RW and reuse the same disc if you mess up. It works fine for me.

Quote: So after you patch the navi.exe file, you can not edit the boot up text like I originally did to the disclaimer? That seems odd. How did AngryDad lock in the text? I prefer to have this mod with my own disclaimer. Can anyone confirm this is possible or not?

So just to follow up on this, you can edit all the disclaimer text but do not touch the AD or the link which follows it (the link is only visible in the file, not on the screen). If you remove/alter those it breaks the file and puts navi in a reboot loop.

What is it going to take to get a step by step for this hack?
I would really love to have the splash image just like what is shown in post #160 of this thread, along with keeping the trip computer hack enabled and of course the defeated OK button?

I have to say I was going to install this hack and give AD something for his time. Now that I can't change my screen and would have to look at "AD" at the bottom all the time, I think I can safely say I won't be installing it. This in itself is a shame as AD has put a LOT of personal (I hope) time into this and it is a great 'upgrade'. I do not want to belittle AD's efforts as I am also in I.T. and understand being belittled for all my efforts to keep everything running. It's only when something breaks or people want things that I usually have opportunity to chat with co-workers.

Having said that...

AD, would you consider a second version without all the proprietary additions for contributors? I understand you wanting to tag your work, who doesn't but I am honestly very disappointed.

Two Cents Worth...

Bonus tip
kenny, the faq keeper, add this to your list:

When you do the trip computer patch, you might as well benefit from replacing diag.exe from the 401a bin with diag.exe from the 404a bin. It enables trip computer screen in diag menu (where you can log data to the card if interested). Holding "Menu" for 5 sec on that screen, gets you to "Trip Computer calibration" menu.

A little confused!
I am confused now. I have a 06 TL. Is there a OK patch for the orange disc or not? Do I download http://www.vistabug.com/bm12/ngf?f=4 (NaviOK401a.com)
and just run that after extracting the navi.exe, then put the navi.exe back in? Help!

I visted http://www.vistabug.com/navi/ and it said "Happy owners of other vehicles that use the orange DVD v3.50 will have to wait a little more. I will release patches for all images on the orange disk later."

Of course I am not doing this. Which leaves you with two options:

1. Crack the AD signature (which is not very hard, but challenging)
2. Ask me privately to personalize the screen for you.

I just downloaded the one from the site. I guess it is the correct one. However, when I try to repack it, I am getting the following:

c:\AcuraTL\navi>dumpnavi BNHH401A.bin update navi.exe
Updating navi.exe ...
The size of the updated file must be less-then or equal to the size of the old file.
This feature might be introduced in a newer version.
Updated file (COMPRESSED): 3028352 bytes Old file (COMPRESSED): 3028315 bytes

How to get around this? BTW the HMIManager and my PIC are already packed in there.

06 TL is what the patch was originally designed for. "Other vehicles" refers to, well, other vehicles. You just need to apply it and boot your new BIN.

EDIT: I also tried a clean BNHH401A.bin file and it still would not work. I would get the same message as above. This is without any pics or HMIManger mods.

easiest way is to use this one...

http://www.savefile.com/files/127152

download the zip file (password:kennyc), and extract the navi.exe

use this navi.exe in your bin.

It doesn't say "AD" in the corner "all the time." It's only there while the text shows (where the disclaimer used to be). You can probably edit it out, but it hardly seems a deal-breaker, if you're one of the many people who've been anxiously awaiting a way to disable the OK button.

The program will loop with you go near "AD" and the URL.

That's AngryDad's "signature"

So I've heard. I was just commenting on the silly (IMO) idea that someone wouldn't bother with this cool hack just because it says, "AD" in the corner for a few seconds.

I did look at it, though, and the "AD" and link is buried in some other text (French) that isn't displayed. It's certainly beyond my skills to edit it out.

AngryDad,
Not to sound unappreciative of your efforts, but I'd prefer to keep my custom text as it's written and deal with the OK button than have to look at your signature. Very resourceful of you to create it that way.

After attempting to remove the AD via a hexeditior (about the extent of my technical expertise), I realized you hardcoded it into the script that calls the OK menu, and thus "breaking" the program.

Although I planned to contribute to your efforts, I would prefer to use a fully customized "badge/signature free" version.

If you'll produce a signature free version, I'll gladly throw some bucks at your beer fund... otherwise, I'll keep hitting the button.

No, the AD is clearly displayed in the bottom left of the nag screen. You can edit the nag screen text, but you can't remove the AD. It's not buried, it's integral to the patch and can't be removed.

I don't like it... and won't use the patch. I'd gladly pay for the patch to be "signature free" though.

By "buried," I meant that it is displayed on the screen, but it's somehow buried in some French text when you look at it with a hex editor. This says to me that it's displayed using some methods beyond my ability to hack out.
