Exactly. Way too easy. Seen it before on another site.

Hardware is more accessible. Wendy's camera is tucked up there. Camera is too noticable.

I didn't think the frame design is attractive.. My Acura frame looks way better.

Who knows about image quality? Bottomline? It's $250! definitely not worth it.

You guys should venture over to the Audio/Electronic forum and search for Wendy's camera off eBay.

Many members recommend it including myself.

There are guides and reviews on here, just need to search to find them.

You can get them on ebay for around $75, I know these also come in black frame. This is actually a repost from some time ago. Your better off going with a camera from wendy

I HAVE THE LICENSE PLATE CAMERA INSTALLED - FOR OVER 6 MONTHS AND NO ONE HAS STOLEN IT YET... YOU BARELY NOTICE THAT IT IS THERE... the silver trim covers it mostly... a person has to be really looking for it to notice it... I think it's a great camera... I actually got it for much less $$$ than AVelec

Actually,,, I know I have never seen this one before and I had done enormous amounts of researching prior to purchasing a BU camera.

True, their are many "license plate frame" cameras out there but this one is unique given its metal design (guess it could be chromed plastic) and obvious vertical view/adjustment capability. One could easily paint "color of choice" with little effort.

As for easy to steal...
Less "easy" than most other cameras used on the TL.. At least this one/frame design uses a recessed bolt/nut design. If you notice, you would put the bolts through to the inside of the trunk and secure etc.. If you used the right hardware it would be much harder to remove than anything any of us have used to date. Sure its more visible but one would ruin it if you attempted removal. With Wendy's camera a screwdriver and wire snips is all you need to acquire a functioning camera and mount....

Cons: Definitely the price. $250 is steep unless the specs are outstanding, IE-at least a 1/3 CCD color etc. with 150H/120V degrees of view and .5 lux (It comes pretty close). Most BU cameras are 1/4 CCD and the larger CCD is where the cost is....
The big thing is it would be an easy install and many will love the chrome and ease of adjustment. I would have gone for it if closer to $180-200... Chrome would have had to go though...
Good find LoReNzZz

the recessed bolts and nuts can't be used in the 3G TL because there is no room to install the nut at the other end. The factory license frame mount is like a drill and tap type type of design (that's the easiest I can describe it).

I live in the BRONX, NY... if it was going to get stolen... it would have already from my car... No one notices the camera unless I point it out to them....

It's more of a PLASTIC CHROME material...actually pretty flimsy....

- True, I would have used a smaller size bolt and nut that would pass through the 10mm bolt hole yet fit within the licence frame recess (one could always drill out the two and/or four plate holes yet that would make mounting a normal plate hard in the future etc.). With the interior trim of the trunk lid removed I'm sure their is a way to get at the plate/bolt insert area. Like you mentioned though - its not that noticeable. And if they wanted your camera, two screws or two license bolts are equal on the removal scale....

- Is yours the "exact" camera and specs?? I find it hard to believe you could find a 1/3 CCD camera for less than $200 considering the frame and all.
Cheers

I admit, you guys are the "search" machines. But then again I am not an Ebay user.

Wendy's camera is impossible to see, unless you are looking for it.

Still, if someone is wanting to steal a back-up camera for their car, off of someone else's.... They're definitely looking for it.....

So the new TL-S camera is made in Taiwan too???

Actually, it isn't "like" the one on the 2007 form factor wise, only in overall mounting location - but that's an easy visual when you see it on Wendy's site. Don't get me wrong, Wendy's camera is a good fit for the TL and is relatively easy to install (cheap - w/only minor mod'ing etc.).

Bottom line, given the relative cost of each off of EBay, I just agree that the "frame" camera could be the way to go for those that say,,, don't have a dremel tool etc..

It's all good
