HFL voice commands (phone pairing) not working

Ok, I've tried searching, and go nothing. I attempted following the process in the owners manual, and it doesn't work. I will say, I've already had the HFL replaced in the car once.

Here is the problem, when I go pair a phone, the system doesn't recognize the voice commands at all and does something else. When I hit the talk button, wait for the beep, and say "phone setup" it does something different each time. One time it turned the air conditioner on, another time it selected an MP3 track to play. Once it said "what do you want to setup", which isn't what it's supposed to say according to the manual.

I have no idea what to do, anybody ever have this problem?

Was under warranty, so $0. The part is about $500 tho, + labor to install. So if you are out of warranty, it's expensive.

Silly question here-- are you using the HFL button or the Navi voice command button?

My '05 has the Navi voice control buttons on the back side of the steering wheel; the HFL buttons used for linking, calling, etc. are on the front of the steering wheel.

About $430 for the HFL/mic module near the sunroof switch, according to some other threads here on AZ.
Mine is OEM and still works perfectly; some '04s were subject to recalls.

Using the navi voice command button, which is what I'm supposed to use to pair the phone.

Try using the HFL "talk" button to pair the phone, starting @ p. 197 of the Owner's Manual for setting up the system.

The Navi voice command button does not control the Bluetooth or phone pairing.

According to the Acura annoucement, the 08 HFL unit will work much better than 04-06. I've experience it when I convert the 05 to 08. The 08 worked, it's more accurate and sentitiable compared to 05. Even if you talk from the back seat with the window open, they still can heary you properly. I suggest you to double check the 20P black connector (interior light) to see if they lock-up properly? See attached for lock & unlock

Also I suggest you test the microphone for levels(map/guide + menu + cancel. Function setup, press HFL talk button)

HFL pricing (out of Warranty)

I work for an Acura service department. Approximate pricing (with labor) to replace a HFL unit is in the 750-900 dollar range (depending on year and model). Hope that helps.

You bumped a very old thread, but $750-$900? Yeah, screwing some people at your dealership I see. You can buy the part for $533, and it takes all of 15 minutes to install. It's 4 bolts and a couple of connectors, that's it.
