GPS & HU integration

New member (hi everyone). Bought 04 M6 Non-Nav TL last month.

Previous GPS died around the same time, so bought a Nuvi 760 over the weekend.

Also have a Passport 8500.

Want to get both hard-wired and am having a devil of a job getting the panels off, so will probably take it in the Best Buy and see what they can do.

Now for the question:

The Nuvi has a crappy FM transmitter, so I want to somehow connect the GPS to the HU using the GPS aux-out.

Is this possible and still retain all the HU usage - XM, CD, FM, etc? I'd rather not have to disconnect the GPS aux every time, but if I have to, so be it.

I've read about the iSimple and MusicLink, but these seem a little overkill as I don't have an iPod. The Nuvi uses an SD card and I have a 8GB that has all I need on it.

Thanks in advance.

hardwiring both are pretty easy, there are numerous DIY's posted here on how to do it.

For the radar detector:
You will need an Add a Circuit from autozone. Plug this into an existing fuse (#32) and then put the power wire from the add a circuit to your device. Take the neg. end of the wire from the detector and ground it.

For the Navi:
You can hardwire in the audio signal. I have the USA-SPEC module which has an RCA input (red/white jacks) and an ipod connector port. I use the RCA's for other media players like sansa, DVD, etc, and the ipod for the ipod. Its pretty well priced and a nice solid unit.

How do you ground it? Is there any ground point near fuse box?

Radar & GPS hard-wire

I'm driving to Orlando on Christmas day, so going to tackle this tomorrow, if I can get all the required panels off.

Photos to follow.

Another question. I can go all out for an iSimple or a Blitz, but anyone have any experience/thoughts about this?

The link shows just an hardwired FM modulator. You will get sound, but it might be broken up, and as well in some cities you will have the radio going on the same channel as the navi guidance.

Arrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggh

Spent an hour or so outside in the freezing cold (20F) and got it all in. Only one broken panel clip. As it is so cold, I can live with that.

Like an idiot, I left the interior light and radio on, so the battery was toast by the time I'd got finished.

Got a jump and now have engine malfunction light and VSA light and triangle on.

Quick drive around the block thinking the battery needed some juice was quite worrying. Limp mode?

Just been and pulled it all back out and left it running for about ten mins plus another drive. Still the same.

What the hell have I done?

Is it just the battery being low and the cold not helping?

Did I possibly break the VSA switch?

Do I take it to the dealer?

check the fuses and also take off the battery terminals, and re-hook 30 mins later.
