Will it work to make DVD-A's for the TL? and is it worth the money?

Looks good to me. DVD-As are created by a program. You can search the forum and find the programs that other members use to create those. This dvd burner will simply transfer the dvd-a that the dvd-a program created to a dvd.

I tend to stay away from Sony drives. From my experience, they work great for a while and then refuse to read disks after a few years.

As for DVD burners, I like Yamaha (who no longer makes them ), Plextor, and LiteOn. LiteOn drives are very affordable.

I guess y'all don't think SONY is worth buying. I am surprised at the LiteOn price, its so cheap. Thanks for all your replies.

One more question, who sells DVD-A's, are they different from DVD+R's?

Get the LiteOn above, its the same one I own. While you're at Newegg, get this spool of DVD-R's. Don't get the +R's unless you want to use them for data backup.

I've been using these Ridata disks for a while to create my DVD-A's and have never gotten a coaster.

The LiteOn's are so "cheap" because they are a major manufacturer/supplier of oem and aftermarket drives and they are able to keep the cost down. I think I heard that they are even going to supply the drives for the Xboxes now. My LiteOn has been reliable and it has decent ripping speeds. I guess "LiteOnstyle" is a lot cheaper than "Sonystyle".

Not a big fan of Sony anything. Sony is way too big in the DRM area for my liking.

i only use pioneer dvd burners and have never had a problem in the 5 years i've used them...

I also believe you stay away from Sony. You can no longer trust them. It's not beneath Sony to install scripts that could prevent you from making backups of DVD's and CD's. Always hold down the shift key anytime you put one their DVD's or CD's in your computer.

I prefer the Pioneer burners over the LiteOn. Very few coasters with the Pioneer. Many with LiteOn.

My Pioneer DVR109 makes lots of coasters. I have a Liteon CD-burner and I never made any coasters. I think next time I'll get a LiteON or an LG DVD burner.

With Sony you pay for the name but get the same drive as the Liteon. Sony does not make their own drives.

With Sony you are paying mostly for the name. All they do is buy the unit and rebrand it. This one will do just fine.

You may want to spend some time at http://www.cdfreaks.com to get burner recommendations. There you will probably discover that the Sony burners are made by BenQ whose latest drives are actually made by Lite-On.
Either way, there is no reason to pay $80 for a burner when really good ones sell for a mere $40.

DVD+R is blank media. DVD-A (Audio) is a recording format and more info about it can be found here. DVD-A discs can be purchased at some local brick&mortar stores like Fry's but the selection is very limited. Your best bet is to use online sites like Buy.com, Circuit City, DVD Planet and Acoustic Sounds.

I've had a Plextor PX-712A for a while now and I'd highly recommend it (I'm sure they've come out with new models by now). I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and based on what people were saying on various forums I went with Plextor.

If you're new to DVD burning, besides DVD+Rs buy a few DVD+RWs to play around with. Burn on those first because you can erase and you'll avoid a collection of coasters.

plextor is best but expensive.

try pioneer,LG-Hitachi(They are joint).

I say benQ are lower quality. I believe Sony are all OEM by someone else.

Plextor is rebranded BenQ. Benq is a lot cheaper.
