Is there a way to extend the XM trial period?

its free for 3 months then you get charged if you decide to continue the service. I dont know of any other ways to get it for free unless you know some tricks.

I thought I remember people saying that they were able to get trials longer than three months by calling XM and telling them something.

You tell them the secret password:

I guess you could tell them, that you need more time to decided if you really want it.

I think you can re-up for as little as 3 months. I love XM and find it to be a great deal.

Does anyone know if they contact you automatically near the end of the trial period? Or hasn't their sales force gotten that sophisticated yet?

I have a question about the XM, does anyone elses go out every once and a while? Not often, but sometimes when going under an overpass I lose the signal - I thought it was supposed to work everywhere.

The satellite signal is line of sight unless you have a terrestrial repeater in your city. There is about a 4 second read ahead (different from buffer) in the chipset on the XM tuner.

A month ago I got something in the mail to renew, but nothing since then and mine expires in a week.

Yeah, they'll contact you by mail about a month before your trial ends. $29.97 for 3 months, $119.88 for 12 months, or $199.00 for 24 months ($8.29/mo).

You should have received something by now. I would call or go to xmradio.com if you're interested in keeping it.

I like it very much. I don't listen to FM too much anymore. I'm now too used to commercial-free music and static-free reception.

Or, if you just take a second and go over to their website, you'll find even better offers:

36 months $289 ($8.03/month)
48 months $369 ($7.69/month)
60 months $449 ($7.48/month)

Xm

XM is surely not CD or DVDA quality, but it is certainly better than ANY broadcast FM ANYWHERE. The broadcasters are screwing themselves out of listeners by over-processing the audio and too many commercials. I haven't listened to broadcast radio in months - and ONLY for AM traffic announcements (soon to come on XM).

XM provides plenty of variety with acceptable quality for casual listening.

It is great being able to drive cross-country and listen to the same station the whole way!

Amen to that. The variety of music on XM that you stand absolutely no chance of hearing on the crappy formats broadcast stations shove down your throats is worth the price of admission alone.

The only thing I use broadcast stations for at this point is the local talk radio guy I listen to (Jay Severin)

It definitely pays to buy in bulk! And they say that if you cancel, you get your pro-rated money back.

My only concern has to do with the minute chance that XM could go belly up in the next 5 years. Obviously, this is unlikely, but if you pay for 5 years of service, then they go out of business, you have to file with the bankruptcy court to try to get even a fraction of your money back. I've had to do that with an extended warranty company, and it's not pretty.
