Dvd AUX in Please Help

Guys,
I got the soundgate aux3 piece and had a local shop install it for me. (expert car audio) Well, he could not figure out how to use it and then had to make his own "4 relay switcher".

I thought it sounded a little funny, somewhat hollow. I stuck in the acura demo disk into the dvd player and tested for 5.1. Well playing all the front speakers including the center plays just fine. But, when it got to the rear left, it plays the front left, same thing for the rear right. When it says its playing the sub, there is no playback.

Im no electronic expert, (thats why i didnt DIY) but this does not seem right.

Has anyone encountered any probs like this when creating the new aux in?

Please help.

It is pretty clear that your installer messes things up. We can't know how exactly he did it.

RBF,
Did you use a soundgate/blitzsafe piece? Or did you wire it through relays?
Im so pissed at the shop right now. He's bascially not wanting to help anymore.
So, im out a Few hundred bucks now and im thinking of taking to another guy tomorrow. (a friend of a friend)
People living in texas, do not go to "expert car audio" in grand prarie, they ripped me.
RBF, i would really appreciate it if you could give me some pointers on how you did it.

Thanks

It sounds like the installer got his wires mixed up. I did my own and it sounds great. You should have asked for your car keys back as soon as you found out that he could not figure out how to use it.

Take it back and ask him to fix it.

I see.
So, when splicing in the wires, did you only have 2 inputs from the xm line?
How did you run 4 inputs into there?

Thanks again for your help.

never said i had 4 inputs, kind of pointless

but you can have as many as you like, just do not turn them all on at once.

basically splice 8 RCA ends to in the XM signal, and you'd have 4 inputs

Is it pointless?
Ok, im a bit confused now. The installer i used said i had to have 4 inputs in order to have the 5.1 back, this isnt true?
Im starting to think this is alot easier then im making it out to be....
So, the xm line has 2 inputs. I splice into those two lines with rca's. Connect my device to new rca's and thats it?

Where did this "expert" splice your system?? If he used anything before the head unit he would have only had a left and right. Unless I'm all screwed up in my thinking (always a possibility) A four relay switch would only get you right and left (positive and negative) it should not have done anything to front and rear that's all mixed at the head unit. you need to have someone who knows what they're doing check out his work......

Here check this thread it may help explain what needs to happen

I don't think you can get 5.1 surround sound from splicing into the xm audio input. XM is only 2 channel audio, right and left. The DVD player you are using probably just has a right and left audio output.

Thats what i kinda thought. So.... does your dvd setup in your car sound like the factory cd player?

Update on this: Since im going through so much trouble with trying to get the audio to sound right again.... (since its mainly the bass missing) im thinking of throwing a 12" sub in the back with a master bass control knob, that should fix my "hollow" dvd audio.

If you know of any other fixes, please let me know! Thanks man!!

you can not get 5.1 with anything on the car except for using a DVD-A disc in the stock headunit. XM is 2 channel, FM, and regular cd's are 2 channels too.

if you want you can cut into the output wires of the amp, and tie them into your DVD player if it has 5.1 outputs, but then you'll need something to mute the radio, otherwise you'll have both things playing at the same time.

i did an install like this on my brothers car for bluetooth, when his phone rings or he wants to use it, the radio gets muted automatically

I haven't installed a dvd player yet. I bought the conversion kit but I still have to buy the dvd player. Im not really too concerned with having 5.1 surround when I play movies, but having some good bass is nice. There might be some audio settings you can change in your dvd player menu. Check out the manual for your dvd player if you got it.
