Door speaker

Hey I'm wondering what component speakers would fit in my door to replace the factory door speakers that are in now? do I need to get a certain brand and what size do I need?

The stock speakers are about 6 1/4" diameter and shallow. If you want to put in a 6.5" you will have to build a ring to install them and probably cut some of the metal on the door to fit them in. I had to cut to fit in 6" Daytons in my last car... Even more to fit the 7" Daytons in my new car.

I myself created a custom mount that composed of the old factory plastic mount and a wooden mount that was glued and zip tied to the factory plastic mount. Although, with this configuration, I had to cut the plastic on the actual door trim since it there were more material that came out of the mounting hole. Nonetheless, I am happier with my 6.5 JL audio components than I was with the stock speakers.

*I probably would have saved money by deleting the rears and adding the money to purchasing some set of Diamond Audios, but I didn't care too much about showing off. FYI, my 750watt Sub is tuned to 400watts

If you're keeping the factory amplifier, be sure to maintain the same ohm rating on the new speakers. The factory speakers are 2 ohm. If you were to replace with 4ohm speakers, they will likely sound better but you will probably loose a lot of volume.

Also, why are you replacing the speakers? I thought my speakers were toast as they sounded very thin with no volume. After doing some research I though it might be the amplifier. I have two TLs so I pulled the amp from my other car and to test out the bad speakers. My stereo magically came back to life. Found a factory unit on Ebay for $50 and replaced the faulty amp.

If you do the speaker switch and you're happy with the results, please post what speakers you used.
