Couple Navigation issues

Ive been searching this since i bought the car tirelessly and with very limited info ill go ahead and start my 1st thread since 07 lol...

I just bought an 04 redondo red 3G and i notice that the nav doesnt work... after searching it seems like a common issue, it will get to the loading screen "Acura Navigation system", flickers on and off as if its restarting then randomly asks for the unlock code, which i do have but the screen doesnt allow my to touch the numbers nor can i scroll to each number using the little track/mouse pad, ive tried just entering the code on the radio "12345" channel but nothing... i have the nav disk in the back DVD player and every time i enter the car it says its trying to load the disk but nothing....... any other hint? or is my nav really just shot?

Hey, a lot of ppl have had this issue. Your Navi drive is toasted. If you do a search for "Alpine Navi repair", you can send the Navi drive to Alpine Electronics in California and they'll repair it. I believe its about $150, but I'm not sure if the price changed. Hope this helps.

Here's a link to a thread. Give Alpine a call to get a quote. Guess the price is now $358 to repair the Navi drive.

No you don't have to remove the center console. If you go in your trunk, the navi drive is on the right...you just have to remove that. Pretty straight forward...remove some clips and the "right side" trunk liner....then its just unplugging 2 or 3 wires from behind the unit...and unbolting the drive from the bracket holding it down.

First, eject the Navi DVD and see if it is scored or has a groove in it.

If not, try cleaning the DVD reader with a cleaning disc to see if that helps. If that doesn't work, try the lense cleaning procedure using Q-tips as described in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/diy-how-fix-navi-disk-read-errors-873489/.

Only send the Navi drive to Alpine if the DVD is grooved or if cleaning doesn't solve the problem.

G/L.

As other posters said its not difficult to remove. I plan to send mine out since those cleaning procedures wont do me any good since my DVD is stuck in my drive no way of taking it out.

So if anything I may need a new Navi Disc which i just got a promotional offer for the disc for $99 from my local dealer. Hope I can get it sent out asap. I miss having my navigation its nearly 1 and half years since it went out.

I kinda wish the dealership could fix it.. only thing that bothers me is how would that fix the fact that everything on the nav screen is not responsive? Or is that how it is when the nav acts up?

Yes, that's how it is when the Navi DVD is unreadable. The DVD drive in the trunk is the brain of the Navi system.

I'd be willing to bet the laser diode lens in the drive is dirty, and that all Alpine is doing is either cleaning it, or just swapping out the mechanism with one that has a clean diode in it. If you have some brass, open the drive up and clean it yourself. Just gotta use cotton swabs, can air and a super gentle touch!

It's my understanding that Alpine is replacing the power supply portion of the drive unit whenever they get one back in for repair no matter what the reason the drive was sent in for. So, it must mean there's some kind of flaw in the power supply's design or there's a known bad component.

Interesting, I just sent mine out two days ago. By the tracking number its been delivered, I will ask about this tomorrow to make sure they really did get it in.

I hope they can get my drive back to me asap, I cant listen to any media features off the car or use any of those features. Have to use my smartphone to listen to music, glad bluetooth still works though.

I'm having similar issues with my Nav system in my 2004 TL. Can you give the name and number of the shop you were referred. Thanks in advance.

I just re-installed my navi drive. And it works without a hitch. I will still keep an eye on it because the first time I sent it in and got it back, after 3 hours it failed again.

Called to see what parts were replaced. They replaced the disc mechanism that ejects it, and laser lens. Since its under warranty I sent it off once again, when I tried to remove it it was very hot to the touch creating a major delay in sync between sound and eyebrow info screen and navi.

After sending it off again just got it back tonight. Called yesterday on status of my package and what else they changed.

-Motherboard
-Power unit
-Fan
-and another sort of lens plate where the disc sits on was slightly off, scratching the disc etc.

Alpine rep. informed that I practically got a new drive seeing how they replaced every major component inside. And if it were to act up again they said I can send it back but he doubts it will have any problems for a very long time.

I can tell the Fan is most certainly new since it has no dust on blades, and very shiny matte black compared to my orig. dust everywhere, faded black with ugly wires.

Is it a no-no to sell parts on here? I don't see a parts section.

Now that I have a tablet installed in mine, I'd be willing to part with my Nav unit...for a nominal fee of course. PM if interested.

Its not allowed, any form of advertising for selling or buying a part must be done in the dedicated BLACKMARKET section.
