Can someone confirm whether or not a 5.1 DTS cd will play in the TL in surround or not....I thought I had read somewhere (can't find it now) that the cd would play but only in stereo, not surround?

I know DTS encoded DVD-As will (ex: Steely Dan's "Gaucho" and Police "Every Breath You Take"). From the DTS Surround Music FAQ :

Will DTS-E continue to produce 5.1 Music Discs in addition to DVD-A titles?

Yes. The 5.1 Music Discs are very popular with consumers who simply prefer instant access to great-sounding 5.1 music tracks. In addition to great 5.1 tracks, the DVD-Audio titles also include “stereo” tracks for people who have not yet upgraded into 5.1 Digital Surround, plus video extras, such as menu screens, photo galleries and select music videos.

Yes, DTS-encoded CDs play fine in 5.1. I have two in my changer.

bluenoise, thanks for confirming. I replied to docbass' other thread, new dvda recommendations. I have several DTS CDs and have paid no attention to it thinking they were DVD-A discs.

Unforutunately no to SACD. Only CD (Redbook), DVD-Audio and DTS Audio.

SACD - yes, sort of.

SACD's will play if they're the hybrid variety, having a CD layer on them. But only the CD layer is recognized. I've tried out a few I have and they play just fine, but only in 2 channel.
