Boosting sub level with fader

Today I experimented, for the first time, the front to rear fader controls on my 04 Navi. I was a bit surprised that by moving the fader control one step towards the rear, I started getting a LOT more sound out of the subwoofer on both a CD and a DVD-A I was listening to. Has anyone else noticed this, or was I just imagining it? The effect surprises me on a 5.1-capable system presumably with discreet channels and amplification.

Believe me, you won't know what you're missing until you get a real subwoofer...

I turn off my added subwoofer, and just listen to the stock one, it's not that good

I used to be like you and used to try to tune the stock sub, but it's not enough

i have 2 12 inch subs. they are so sweet. with the amp at 50% gain, and the sub adjust at minus 3. And the volume at 12. My mom comes outside and tells me to turn the damn music down.

Believe me, I've had monster stereo systems in the past so I appreciate the difference. How did you hook up your subs? My understanding from reading this forum is that we haven't found a good place to get a preamp sub connection off the head unit. Are you using speaker level converters?

we tapped into the wires before they reached the stock amp, hooked up rca converters, and then ran rcas to the aftermarket amp.

How do you get a full bass signal off a rear channel on surround sound music? I would be interested in adding a sub to the factory set up if there was a way to get the detail in the bass. I dunno why you couldn't disconnect the factory one and use it's signal and recross is at the amp or crossover.

It sounds great. I have no distortion so far even up to volume level 24, i havent pushed my subs past that yet. My sub channel is set at -4 but the amp gain is at 100%.

Im not sure if we tapped the rear speaker wires or the stock sub wire. All i know is that everything else functions as normal, just that the bass is incredible now.

I got everything done at the Frisco Circuit City... THere is a guy there named Steve and he is one of the best installers in the area. You can reach me on aol or aim if you have questions, my screen name is: Turbowhat05
