Blue ceiling light controls?

Have not yet used HFL system in 05 TL: after clearing the HFL system tonight, I noticed two blue lights in ceiling turned on... they switch off when headlights are off and back on when headlights are on....are these lights connected to HFL, is there a separate switch to control them?
Thanks
Jeff P.

they should always be on with the headlights, not due to HFL. Make sure the brightness is set to 2 below max with headlights on and 1 with headlights off.

Hey Jeff,

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the two blue lights on the ceiling are there just for "ambiance".

I remember how trippy it was the first time I noticed those lights. They're just interior lights that are always on when you have the parking/headlights on. Haven't found much use for them but they're just cool when you wave your hand under them.

I did find out that the fuse for the interior lights, when blown, effects the HFL; The mic doesn't work and a maybe a couple of other things that I can't recall.

But the ambient lights are not related to the HFL directly.

lights are for shifter

The lights are to provide illumination for the shift knob. They made them non-intrusive, but helpful.

They are accent lights - indeed for ambiance. They are configured to light up the metal rails on either side of the center column that goes from the CD player to the hand brake.

If you switch your interior light switch to 'off', I think the blue accent lights will still come on and illuminate the metal rails. I think.

Anyway, I haven't noticed mine since I replaced my inner bulbs with 9-LEDs. They're really bright.

I heard that these lights are somehow connected to the HFL. I really do like them and NedSchneebly is correct, it looks really cool when you wave your hand under them!

Funny thing about these lights is that if you put your Passport 8500 under them at night...the laser alert goes crazy! Scared the shit outta me the night i bought the car and was going to attach the detector to the windshield.

Those two lights are for aesthetics only...they go good with the whole blue light special we got going in the TL...well...at least mine do!

Is there not a replacement board for it. Even if I did choose to use my soldering iron again where would one get the led to replace the original?

You would need to find out more about those LEDs (by taking the board out) and try to find something similar online. For example
these these
might work.
