Talking Blinder install (BWW)

I just finish installing Blinder M-10 in the TL. I had the blinder in my previous car and I have to say it was a lot harder to install this time around.

Blinder recommends mounting the emitters between the license plate and the headlight so the ideal location would be within the bumper grill. I have determined very early on that I had to remove the bumper to mount the emitters as there are not a lot of space to work without taking the bumper off. In contrast I can mount the emitters on the Audi without removing the bumper.

Thanks to Ron A for posting the bumper removal instruction, I was able to use this to get my bumper off. It was a lot easier than it looked.

Here's how my car looked with the bumper off...

Mounting the emitters with careful measuring and drilling. I also used loc-tite on mounting bolts and nuts so they will not become loose over time.

Next morning I put the bumper back on. I trimed a slat off each bumper grill in order to get the emitters to fit within.

Blinder also stressed about the importance of mounting the emitters perfectly straight forward and level. This was done by adding nuts and washers to either side of the mounting bracket.

Now I have to find a way to route the wire into the cabin.

This time, thanks goes out to DeathtoToasters for his post on his audio install. It helped me route the power and the beeper wires into the cabin.

His pic...

Mine...

This is the wiring diagram from blinder...

I was going to install a on/off switch per the wiring diagram. But, I came upon deandorsey's post on hardwiring the V1 that I decided to tap directly into rear driver power window fuse block and use the power window switch to turn the emitters on/off. No extra switches = cleaner install.

Before...

and after...

and putting everything back together...

All done!!

Again, thanks goes out to Ron A, deathtotoasters, and deandorsey for sharing their experiences, without them my little project might not went anywhere as smooth as it did.

Blinder M-10 is the active laser jammer detector to protect drivers from all police laser guns.

yeah, but if it jams a police laser gun, then wont the police man know you have a jammer and pull you over because of that

depends on how you use it.

this will not save you if you're going 100+. You will get pulled over.

this will help if your travelling a little over, say 10-15 and police lased you. blinder automatically activates and beeps at you. the key is to turn it off once you slow down so they can get your speed.

end result - they got your speed on the gun and is below speed limit. they move on to the next target.

but is it normal for the laser guns to jam?
because if not, then the police man sees his laser gun jam, and he then knows you have a laser jammer.....

understand what i am trying to say?

hahaha - with all this laser gun talk, i wanna go see star wars

Nice!

Nice install, KennyC! So when are we going to hit 270, 495 and 95 for a test run?

some jammer will trigger jamming codes in some laser guns. Blinder will not.

when blinder is on, the lasergun will show " - - - - " on the lcd screen - just like if the laser gun is pointed at something that is not moving (i.e. road, tree, signs...) this creates doubt in the cop's mind that either he did not aim right, or there might be something wrong with the gun and he will try again, and guess what? by this time I have slowed down enough and have turned off my blinder that he will be able to get a reading off my vehicle. Once he got my legal speed, he moves on to the next target.

The purpose is not to make your car unclockable, it's to give you time to slow down and let them clock you at a legal speed.

Great install. When I had my TL I had installed the passport zr3. I am curious, how do you like the blinder? Did you look at the zr3? (www.passportsr1.com) I noticed you do not have one for the rear on the trunk lid. With the ZR3 - does it not come with one? The ZR3 I had came with one for the rear.

Thanks for the compliment!

When I was doing my research, I found 3 systems that consistently performed well - Escort ZR3, Lidatek LE-20, and Blinder M-10/16. (anything from rocky mountain radar is garbage - they just don't work)

I basically chose blinder over the other two for couple of reasons: cost and ease of install. Both the Escort and the Lidatek has more parts than the blinder and they both cost about $100 more. I don't know how much they cost now... I got my blinder from ebay for around $250

Yes, escort ZR3 has one emitter in the rear but I had the Blinder for 3+ years and I never got lased from the rear. *knock on wood*

yes I have a V1 but I don't use it anymore. the reason why I don't is because where I live Police now uses nothing but laser. Laser gets your speed almost instantaneously. If you get hit by laser, V1 goes off, and by that time the police already have your speed so the only thing V1 will tell you is when to pull over. :surrender

As I said before, go with these three brands - Lidatek, Blinder, or Escort. They all work well and also find out what Police in your area uses for speed enforcement.

Bliner has an m-20 out now, I wonder what the difference is. I will have to look into it. I bought an IS350 that will be here in late jan. so I will look into it. In having the zr3 for a year, I havn't been hit with laser from the rear either, I also hated that big thing on the rear license plate and always worried about what a cop would say if they saw it. Hopefully I will not get hit from the rear if I get the blinder.

I am curious, what fewer parts were there? When I did the zr3 install there were just the three sensors and the control unit in the cabin plus a remote mute button which I never used.... hmm

You said you have used these in the past, have they worked? I know the ZR3 has saved me in the past, so I am of course skeptical of going to a new product - but since you have had experience I will listen to what you say

From what I can tell, the biggest difference between the M-10 and M-20 is that you no longer need to splice wires. They now plug into an interface box. What it mean is that instead of behaving individually, all emitters fires now when either one detects laser signal.

M-10 does not have the control unit nor the interface box. It has 2 emitters, on/off switch, a speaker, and misc brackets and wires.

Sorry but I never used all of them, I did my research online as well as calling shops, and distributors. I also found out what kind of laser gun the local police uses and ask distributors whether their products work with this gun or not.

In short, do you homework!

Thanks for the info. From everything I have read about the Blinder, it works with virtually every laser gun around and they will pay your ticket if you get one.

Honestly I don't really have a problem paying for speeding tickets once in a while... it's the damn insurance premium increase that I worry about.

Yea its just laser, any of the the x and ka bands are definetly illegal to jam. But that is what a good radar detector is for and a radar detector wont save you from a laser. I just bought the m-20 x-treme and I am having it installed on thursday at a local authorized place.

Not exactly...
radarbuster.com is sponsored by Bel/Escort. It's a big giant commercial for thier products, with the perception of no bias. You have to dig a little deeper.

I've long read the jammers are all a bunch of bologna... but let's not this thread evolve into a discussion of that.

Good install, and yesp, you would need to remove the bumper to get it that clean.

Laser jammers in and of themselves are not illegal everywhere, but most states have laws that make it illegal to interfer with a police officer's ability to enforce the law. So even if the jammer isn't specifically illegal, they can get you on an interference charge, which could cost you more than the speeding ticket. But, hey no points

I think you're thinking of radar jammers. Laser's are in some states, but I think regardless you probably wouldn't want to get caught with one. I doubt you'll see a warning ticket for your speed.

agreed and with the new and advanced radar/laser guns the po-po is using, it will actually display on their gun screen that their gun has been "jammed" so if you're the only car out there or five-0 has their gun targeted specifically to your car, YOU ARE SERIOUSLY SCREWED.

These new guns can actually tell when they are being jammed and will verbally indicate it on their gun screens. GL.

The whole trick to using a jammer is to jam the poilice officer and then slow down to the legal speed and then turn off the jammer and then he will clock you at the right speed.

Your thinking of passive jammers like colarado mountain radars or whatever they are called, whick are pure crap and have been ripping people off for years, i doubt radarbusters.com is giving very much poor info on their website or any if that. He will actually give you 5 grand to show him a passive jammer that works. Spend 30 minutes on his site and watch the videos and read the reviews etc, and he even was a cop for 30 years and has been on the news a few times. A passive jammer sucks and laser jammer works like the blinder x-treme m-20.

To avoid the insurance premium increase, just get a decent traffic lawyer. They only cost $200-300 / ticket and almost always can get your "incorrectly issued" ticket dismissed. This is much less than the ticket+multi year premium increase. Especially considering the compounding nature of premium increases if you get multiple tickets on your record.

Just google "speeding ticket lawyer" and you'll get a bunch of info. There's usually few really good ones in a given area.

Keep it safe out there.

Its a proven fact that the human eye cant judge speed, it can tell whether an object is moving fast/slow but you cannot pinpoint a speed. You dont even have to slow down if it truly 'jams' the signal unless he pulls up next to you or behind you to determine how fast you are going. You might want to look into the legality of this in your state because if at night he goes unnoticed and is behind you and knows that youre using a jammer you might get knee deep in fecies.
