Bad Experience with Sirius XM
Bad Experience with Sirius XM
I purchased my 05 WDP 5AT TL from a private seller on 12/18. On the 20th, I decided to call XM to ask for a free one month trial. I was told I was ineligible because my vehicle was used and wasn't purchased from a dealer. I asked if I could purchase one month of service to try it out. I was told "yes, for $18.97". I thought it was a bit high, but I went for it. I was promised that I would only be charged $18.97. They gave me an authorization number and everything, but told me to call back before January 20th to cancel or I'd be charged for another month.
On January 11th, I called to cancel the service or to see if they would offer me a lower monthly rate. I was told that I never had a monthly subscription because they don't even offer such a thing. I quickly checked my credit card activity online to discover I had been charged $77.47 and not the $18.97 I was quoted. I went off, demanding to speak to a supervisor who could fix this problem. I was told I would have to be called back in a few minutes. As you might expect, a few hours went by and no one called me back. So, I called back, spoke with someone claiming to be a supervisor. She assured me that I would receive a refund of $58.50 and that she would throw in several months of free service for the mishap.
I called today, to check to see why I hadn't received a refund. I was told that there's a $35.48 service credit on my account and that the other salesperson only had clearance to refund that amount. Now this salesperson (whose name and employee # I requested) said she would refund my full $77.47. She said I would still need to call back before July 11th to cancel the service or my credit card would be charged again.
Has anyone else had this experience? Sounds like a scam they are running - charge your credit card a higher amount than promised and string you along until you get confused, give up or have used the amount of "free" service that they initially charged your for. Well, I'm not giving up. In fact, I think it's time to consult the BBB.

My mother's story is even worse.
My folks subscribed to XM several years ago and cancelled it I believe in early 2007.
A few weeks ago, some bozo from XM calls up my mother claiming she owed them over $700 for a service that was clearly cancelled and unused for three years.
Needless to say, my mother who normally has the patience of a saint went off on the supervisor..

Stay on them to get your refund. They'll fix it, just need to get to the right person.
Then, if you still want XM, head over to the audio/nav/electronics section and read the sticky post on how to get XM for $77/year. That script has been working for 6 years now. Good luck.

I have most bills on automatic payment... With XM, I have them bill me and I send a check. I've been receiving the $77/year for a couple years, after every year they try to raise it to twice as much. I think this last one was $165+ for a year!! XM call centers are rude.
OP...sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I have only good things to say about my few interactions with them. Stay on them, and you will get your money back, and maybe even a few free months. Good Luck
Ok Timb227.....please share more on your deal. Details so we can get the same deal. @ $5 a month that comes out to be $60 a year. A better deal then I have @ $77 a year mentioned in the sticky post mentioned on the $77.
Personal Experience: Don't let them bill your CC.
It's "certified" that they are pains in the a$s, so here's how I've dealt with it since the first time they did it.
You need to get their mits off of your credit card for starters. They do keep coughing up the 77/year (my 5th year at 77) but you need to switch over to a statement. It will cost something like $2 extra for an "invoice fee" but it will keep your money in your hands. When I get the statement I call and tell them I'm gone if they don't lower the rate. They send a new (lower) bill after that and that's when I give them a check (not CC number)
