Question Apple Carplay for 2008 Non-Nav

Hello, I am new to posting in Acurazine and was wondering if anyone had any guides or tutorials for installing a tablet or headunit in 08' TL non navi. I have been looking into this and have seen the posts about Nexus 7 installs and am weary of doing so because of the battery drain issues. Also I would install an aftermarket head unit, but I don't want one that is located down low where the original stereo is because if I have Apple Carplay I would prefer to have to look down constantly. Also I've seen the Tesla style screens, but am not a fan of the huge price tag or the look of it in my opinion. Finally I have looked into just purchasing a fire hd 8 plus tablet and installing carplay on that and mounting it in the car if anyone has any suggestions on that it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, this is something i've been working on. I designed and printed a dock attached to my phone's proclip. I ended up removing it because my passenger's leg room is compromised this location. Also it shakes a bit. I also found out I can't see this screen horizontally with my sunglasses on due to polarization. this is with an lenovo tab 8 and a carplay dongle.

I am redesigning the upper vents and info screen piece to include as spot for the tablet at the top where the info display/clock is currently. So far I have few more revisions on the info screen piece, then I start working on the vent/hazard area. Then i will have room at the top for the tablet, it just might be out of reach however. some pics of my work are below.

Very interesting, but what I'm going for is something that won't take up much room and isn't hanging. So far the only option I have for this would be using the new Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus (which has wireless charging), mount it with a magnetic holder over the screen area because mine is a non-navi, mount a wireless charger to the back of the tablet and run Carplay through that. If I did this it would allow the tablet to charge as well as charging my phone while plugged in and it would fit over the area that doesn't really have much useful information anyways other than the climate control screen which I'm not concerned about. This seems like the least invasive part the only part that would be annoying would be the cord from the cords which I would hide.

By the way are you using wireless CarPlay, and does it charge your phone at the same time if it is wired?

Wouldn't mounting an actual iPad achieve the same thing, why the need for CarPlay anyway?

(not for OP, i mean for @bitterbuffalo 's solution)

I am using this cable.
Amazon Amazon

The wired carplay dongle needs a usb port to the tablet and this cable has a charger port as well, Both tablet and iphone get power over it. The wireless carplay adapters are not as reliable as the wired ones. either dongle needs data to work, a wireless charger does not pass data through, only power.
