Ktuner on a 2020 ILX?

Now that we are just past 500 miles or so on my other half's 2020 ILX Premium, I've noticed that the car short shifts around 6500-6700rpms as opposed to the true redline of 7100rpms or so. I've used the Ktuner device on past Hondas but I only see the application for the ILX up until model year 2018. 2019/20 were merely cosmetic changes to my knowledge so would a Ktuner work o a 2019/20 ILX DCT?

I know on my car, according to my dyno graphs, power starts to fall off above 6500RPMs.
if that's true with the 4 bangers, then there would absolutely no need to rev all the way out to 7100RPM

With the 8 speed you don't drop below the torque. I think raving up to 7k would actually make it slower.
Here's some power/torque info https://www.automobile-catalog.com/c...lx_a-spec.html

Interesting. We had a ‘14 TSX with the very similar 2.4 in it and they made power past the redline of 7100rpms; same with the last gen K24 Civic Si. It’s just strange to me that one of the last of its kind high rev-ing VTEC engines short shifts well below its indicated redline.

Looking at the dyno of a ‘16-‘18 ILX with a Ktuner on mild bolt-one, it really increases the power in the upper rpms.

https://ktuner.com/16ilx/

My original question though.....is there an option for buying a Ktuner for a 2019-20 as only ‘16-‘18 is listed. I’m not aware of any mechanical changes for model year 19/20.

to answer your question tho; Most times when a tuning software isnt compatible with future years it means it's software related...or perhaps internal ECU changes were made.
meaning; it doesnt matter if there werent any mechanical changes...it's just not compatible with the tuning software.

It's the head design. This engine is designed for torque/MPG. If you desire high revving, you'd need to do head work. Honda knows how to purpose build engines. Your best bet would be to call Ktuner and ask if it's compatible.
If you absolutely need a screamer, talk to 4Piston. As they say on their web page, "We have the parts and knowledge to make them scream." I don't know how well the clutches would hold 500hp NA though.

Yeah, that's what I fear. I'll send them an email just in case......

Yeah, you're right.....I didn't think about revised head design for a more fuel efficient/low end torque engine. Oh well. It's still decently fun and zippy to drive, even more so as it's "her" car, not mine. No interest at all in doing head work on this car as it just crossed 400 miles on the odometer today, haha. She'll remain stock motor/power wise for the foreseeable future.

have you tried contacting Ktuner themselves? I'd love to know this answer also, not just if it will work, but if not then why?

I did end up emailing them and they were prompt with their replies if also a bit terse. They told me that the ECUs they support are not dependent on the year of the vehicle if there are no changes from the previous year, but rather the serial number of the ECU. As someone who doesn't actively wrench on my own cars, I have zero idea where the ECU is located to find said serial number. If it is relatively easy to locate I'll pass along to the folks at Ktuner to see if they can add it to their supported ECU serial numbers. I'm only interested in a very subtle "Stage 1" map with no other bolt-ons, but would buy this tomorrow if they support it.

right, because the ECU might have internal changes made to it.
I believe the ECU is under the center console. pretty hard to get to if one isnt accustomed to wrenching on their own vehicles.

another idea is to browse acura parts or junk yards for the 2020 ILX ECU.

If this is the ECU https://www.acuraoemparts.com/v-2016...ngine-room-1-2
it's next to the battery.

I did something similar for my 2005 tsx over a decade ago. Had to swap out ECU for a 2004 unit in order to get the hondata reflash.

does ktuner provide actual ECU # ranges that are currently supported??

I reached out to RV6 performance as I have just purchased their PCD downpour for my 2019 ILX and this is what they told me. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info! I'll get around to it eventually, probably around the first of the year when we'll have some more miles on the car and I feel it will be fully broken in.
