Question Any plans to get rid of the tape deck?

Here's the deal, I'm not buying a TL until they get rid of the ridiculous tape deck. Last time I was at the dealer they told me "affluent buyers prefer the tape deck because they listen to books on tape." I'm thinking - hmmm, there are books on CD you know.

Anyway, does anybody know when they are getting rid of it, or why it's even there in the first place?

I would say that is an odd reason to not buy a car. The 06s have it. I would say the first possibility is 07 or 08.

Good ridence. Why the hell do you care? I have cassettes still so shoot me. If it bothers you that much you should go buy something else.

The reason there is a tape deck is becuase it's an easy way to adapt ipods, mp3 players, portable devices to the car stereo. I am very glad to have a tape deck. FM transmitters do not sound as good and are more hassle to use.

LOL, I was just going to post this topic today. I wonder how much it costs to make the radio with a tape deck vs a radio with an extra input for ipods etc. The cost can't be that much different.

For all the hype from acura about technological innovations, having a tape deck is so backward.

i wish there was a set of RCA's instead of a tape deck, and a seperate AUX button on the dash.

Great answer form the dealer. Remember folks, affluence is the key to having a brain *wink*...*wink*.. I guess there's no such thing as a smart/poor person..

Although I like the fact that it has the tape deck, that's a pretty snooty point of view tying book-on-tape listening to affluence..

I guess Bently owners must take it the next step and actually sit down and read books? Anyone have Snoop-Doggs number, so I can call and ask?

Veyron owners are generally the actual book writers (in case you're wondering) I hate stupid answers like that from dealers.

I think the real reason is for using IPODs and MP3's like tzakiel said.....I like having it for that reason....my tapes are sitting in my basement somewhere and haven't been used for years...and years....but I do use it for the IPOD until I can get that adapter (hopefully next month)...

I like having the tape deck; one reason is that if you have a mixed tape on a C-90 or C-100, you can't fit it onto a CD without deleting some of the songs. It's like going on a ski trip and bringing long underwear—if you have it with you and the weather is in the 20s, you don't have to use it, but if you leave it at home and the weather is around 0, you're out of luck if you want it. Bottom line—you don't have to use the tape deck, so why all the bitching?

More importantly, the presence of the tape deck seems to piss off the 20-something kids, so that works for me!

(%&*$ smiley list is too slow to load....would have put one on that last sentence.)

I am going to say they won't get rid of it till the next FMC (full model change) Why would they change the headunit in a mid model just to get rid of the tape?

I actually like the deck, I am an attorney and the Florida bar has its continuing legal education programs only on tape, not CD, so I'll be one of the few people that will miss it when it's gone.

They do have one for the '06 models (connector will be in the glove-box).. Suppose to be released in mid-Dec.... The rest of us are waiting to see if it's compatible with '04-'05 (Navi and non-Navi).. I think it's a $250 upgrade...

My girlfriend bought an '06 Honda Civic yesterday. The face of the nav panel slides downward to insert cd's and there's a slot for loading sim cards with mp3's on them. I also believe there's a jack for Ipod inputs, but there's no tape deck. While I don't mind having the tape deck, I do find it odd that it's in vehicle that's touted as being technologically advanced and it cannot play MP3's burned to a CD or display CD text.

Why can't they put an Aux input like in the 06 TSX? One of the reason I may get the TSX over the TL is because I can't plug my IPOD into the TL directly (without paying for mod or fm transmitter or the tape thing). The TL has all these nice luxury technology but no support for MP3? That's just dumb.

Well I hear what you are all saying about the tape deck being used to play an iPod, but all Acura needs to do is install an AUX input and it would be much better! With an actual input for an iPod, you could use the steering wheel controls to change songs and song titles would show up on the display. THAT is the direction the TL needs to be headed in.

I found some old tape with the same songs I now have on DVD-A. What is interesting is playing the song on tape then listening to the same song on DVD-A. It realy shows how far sound quality has come.
