Acura TL 2004 CarPc "WorkLog"
I plan to do this without the carPC.
Meaning, I want to remove the stock non-Nav dash, sut as you did and custom install a double din ts indash/radio in there.
Do I simply do teh same exact thing you did, relocate stock LCD, extend wires.
My question, what else do I have to do? How do I get power, sound?
IF I am correct, I can simply buy a Acura 2005 stereo harness, like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Radio-Wire-Harne...2em118Q2el1247
And simply go from there just as if I am installing an indash in another car with an indash kit?
I was just curious if we tap into the stock harness, cut, where, which wires, or WHAT exactly is needed to be done to get this all to work.
I am pretty good with wiring, bondo/putty, fiberglass, etc.
Thanks in advance!

You want to place the double din instead of the stock LCD ??
I guess there's not enough space, I would check the measurement before attempting this.
Simply disassemble your car and take all the measurement carefully.
As for the plug, it seems that this is to replace your original head unit. There's alot of data coming from the stock HUnit. IM sure you would loose alot by removing it.
go at mp3car.com you'll have much more luck there

Also, throw that roadrunner crap out! Centrafuse FTW!!!

What do you mean PS3? What all will that give you? dvd, and a console? With the PC the options are pretty much endless....
- DVD/CDRW?
- Video
- Audio
- Wifi
- GPS
- Engine Management?
- Gaming
The list can go on and on...

Minus burning cd's/dvd's which im not gonna do in my car anyway...the ps3 has the same functions...wifi,audio,video,gaming again the list goes on and on...again dont get me wrong, i love the thought of having a pc in the car, but its just wayyy to much work and money when you can just add a ps3 to ur system and have basically the same functions
How are you going to just slap a ps3 in a car? What about the bootup/bootdown functions? CPC isn't as hard as he is making it out to be. I did mine in a weekend.
What about the front end? Heat issues? The simple fact that it's going to be bouncing around alot?
Plus I don't believe the PS3 will output strong enough audio....

^^You have a good point BLIZZ, now just do it and show it off so we can compair.
Have you ever thought of customizing the interface of the PS3, if so let me know!!!!
All I can say is, this is the best project I ever realized BY MY SELF and I like it. It keeps my mind busy.
I never went to the EASY path and its on purpose!!! Ive learned so much with this project that even a PS3 wouldnt tempted me.
I guess its all about what are your "needs" or desire.

where exactly did you plug the car2pc in??
I have a Canadian Model TL aswell and I'm looking into a car pc. As you know our Head units have no aux/xm in. So i'm just curious where the car2pc would plug into. I looked on their site and they don't even seem to have a model for 3g TL's.

There's a Do It Yourself in the garage about the Comptech SS, look for it, it will give you a good idea.

I know what ur sayin'...get a touchscreen, right? well the problem is that I have the stock navi and I have nowhere to relocate the navi screen, its too big to drop down in the lower compartments and I think the same would hold true for a 7" xenarc. suggestions, help, anyone???

You could hide the navi screen and install a touch screen but you would loose all your navi system that you already PAID for.
Keep us updated cause it seems like a good challenge!!
Good luck!

VMT you've been awesome helping me out I appreciate everything, but I have one more question...where did you get a 5V constant in the car? Everything powers up good but I need a 5V ground to be able to hibernate my pc.
I'm in need of some realy HELP!
OK OK
I was cutting my wires to extend them so that I could relocate the LCD screen , but when I plugged it back in the LCD screen was not responsive. Did this happen to you? Is this an easy fix? Do you know what I am talking about?
I already checked the fuses, and now I am about to unwrap all the tape to check to make sure that I made the the right connections on both ends. Any help you can give will be wonderful.

RTLNOOBIE and I, did a carpc install in my 3G....extending the harnesses is NOT something that you want to do a rush job on. unwrap all the extensions and troubleshoot. It would be a good idea to hit eBay and see if you can find a spare display module just in case you really mess things up. Good Luck!
this was not a rush job I am on a month leave from work, so I was taking my time to do it right. No one in Hawaii wanted to do it, so I read up on all the post on here and decided to do it. It took me along time to work up the nerve to do it and then this $hit happens
Boy I can't wait to get my double din.

Here I go again with another episode of the CarPc Installation. I had some time this weekend to advance my case installation.
First, I wanted to look OEM and keep more space as possible.
Second, I wanted to be able to remove it easily without removing the hole trunk lid.
It took me more then a day to figure out the right position and what I would have to do to make look good.
I had to admit that I saw a similar installation on this website, and I will have to thank him later for giving me this idea.
I first removed the back seat, rear deck cover and top trunk lid.

Its pretty simple to remove the back seat, you simply need a ratchet size 10 and remove 4 bolt + loosen 2. should take about 20 minutes MAX and 10 the second time
I directly drilled 3 pole of approx 4 inch each into the rear deck to get more stability. I then used some holes that wear already in the case to fix it in place.

The picture is not really good but you can actually see the 3 pole ....
I took some time to fix the bad boy to see what it looks like and it came out pretty nice...

Dont worry about the wiring, it was only for testing !
Finally I had to cut 3 holes in the top trunk lit carpet to let passe the 3 pole and also a 4 by 7.5 inches hole for the FANS!!
This is what it looks like finished !!
From the outside:

From the back:

Here's are the step left :
1- Hide and Install the distribution block
2- Install a new switch to give me more control
3- Paint the case + Power Supply case FLAT BLACK
Extra project
Dynamat all rear deck
Install JL Audio 8" sub + SPL 460 amp)
Install Infinity speakers
