2012 White DVD Map Update v4.A2
If they have a promotion like a year before for US$ 99 a piece, then I'll consider, since on their website, nothing has been changed for California...
Although I know streets in Bay Area changed a bit over the past 2 years or so...

$149 isn't a deal, it's a rip-off for a substandard product.
I just got back from vacation in Canada (PEI and Cape Breton) where the Acura Navi is useless. I drove out of the coverage area not too long after I crossed into New Brunswick.
Contrast this $149 "deal" with the $89.99 Garmin charges me for lifetime updates for the Nuvi. For almost $50 less I get updates for all of North America four times a year. So, I wind up driving around using the Garmin in the Acura since the on-board one is useless.
Garmin would make a killing if they offered their software for the Acura/Honda vehicles.

Well, it is a better price than MSRP.
It seems silly to use a Garmin if your TL has Navigation. Yes, the price is high, but it's better than the $185 they usually charge.
And yes, it would be better if we had Garmin navigation.
But we don't......

Garmin vs. Acura Navi
I have a Garmin which I use with my built-in navigation. The Garmin's time estimates are much, much better, and I get *free* traffic information. The traffic alone is worth the price of admission unless I have have missed some well-priced traffic trick.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I've got an 07 Type-S. I agree and think the nav is subpar. My brothers wife has an 2010 audi A4 and the nav is amazing. So much better than ours. It's like Windows 95 vs Windows 7. So what exactly does the new disk offer? Better graphics or just a couple of extra roads?
I brought the Garmin because it covered our entire trip. We drove from Virginia up through Maine into New Brunswick and then on to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island.
The Garmin covered everything, while the Acura Nav drove off the edge of the planet shortly after crossing into New Brunswick. (you can just see the last bit of known territory in the lower left of the pic)

Hey guys, I have an o5 TL and have the disc that was released in 2009. My buddy has a TSX and has the Silver buttons on his touch screen is that because he has the newest disc? Or is that type of layout not on our TL's?
Thanks!
Thanks!
For me it's a love/hate relationship. If you want to navigate to a specific address, I think the TL nav is outstanding. With the rare exception of an occasional newly built address, I can program it to go to a street address quickly and accurately using the voice system. I love that part of it.
What I hate is the horrible points of interest system. It has simply doesn't have many POIs that are in even my ancient Garmin Quest. To compound the issue, the searching is nothing short of user antagonistic software! Even the POIs that are present are often split into various categories. It's just plain pitiful.
It's also way overpriced. $149 (the new, super deal) gets you one update. For less than $90 you can get a lifetime subscription to the Garmin software that gives you up to four updates a year.
I was also irritated to discover that the Canadian coverage was so limited.
The new disk just contains updates to reflect new/changed maps and POIs. No new features or graphics. (Actually, you lose at least one feature from the '07 version your car came with - now there is only one voice.)

Actually that's not quite true. If you are updating from the 2007 disc, you also get the updated Daylight Savings Time rules, and one way street markings.
if so, has anyone done this hack for the new disc?
Yes you are, although irritatingly enough they don't update their maps very quickly. They claim to "Verify" roads which adds to the delay, yet there are so many mistakes that I would rather get unverified incorrect maps that are more up to date, versus verified incorrect maps that are less up to date.
In this day and age we should be able to subscribe to the data and create our own updates when we want to.

You'll only know when you purchase a newer disc. If you want to save even more money, purchase a used 2010 or 2011 disc. It's still a massive jump from what you have currently. The newer discs are way more responsive than the older ones. There is less "delay" when proccessing info in the navigation system. I'll be purchasing a 2011 disc from one of you AZ members offloading it after buying a 2012 disc.
