2012 Map Update $99--Worth it ?

I received a letter from Acura to update the Nav disc in my 08 TL-S.
Not sure if its worth it---Does the functionality of the system change in any capacity or is it basically still look like a 5 year old GPS system ?

SH!T If it only Updates the POS It would really be worthless for me because I never used my Navi for POS I only used it to enter addresses to get to places ive never been.

*depression*... Just spent $99 I don't have to get it on rumors that it will improve my boot-up time. Right now the rear-view cam is 100% worthless because I cannot possibly stand to wait 60 seconds or whatever for it to boot. (And with gas prices it's like paying a toll each time to use your rear-view, even if I was patient enough to wait ages)

it updates the maps as well.

but as far as updating graphics and looking like today's smart phones: that is a no-go.

I found it hilarious how they advertised this update... something about 100,000 businesses shutting down since 2008 economic collapse... I mean if we get involved in nuclear war and a few cities get annihilated, will they try to sell the update disks with "no longer fear getting routed through cities that have been annihilated from the face of the planet or face the risks of radiation adversely affecting your family's health!"

Man, you guys are bitchy today.

Silver, it's worth it, especially at this price, if your current disc is a few years old. I find the Nav System helpful. I use the commands quite a bit....

It seems silly to buy a GPS when it's already built in to your dash....

the navi even though outdated works pretty well besides the POI system.. i've never really had problems with it taking me to somewhere that wasn't supposed to, or telling me to U-TURN on the freeway (happened to a friend of mine when he was using his cheap gps).. what i usually do is use my phone to get poi's and then use my navi to take me there..

As for the update disks, i guess updating is worth it to you if you want the latest and greatest.. i personally do, so i do have the latest.. i don't know if it will help boot up times though, as im not sure how the navi works with that stuff.. for 99 dollars its not TOO bad of a price since regular price is more than that

I hear you Stephen(plus we have the same car so I listen a little harder with you ) . I use the Nav a lot myself but to be honest anytime I want to look for a POI or something it will give me a dunkin donuts like 3000 miles away or something like that. Irritating...unless they fixed that its not worth it.

3000 miles away!?

I've been wanting the update as well, I could care less about the graphics, just as long as it recognizes addresses. I checked yesterday, I have Version 1.5000 I think, how old is that? (Car is an 06)

I think it's worth it if your in a situation like me, my new house doesn't even show up on the map, but if not then no reason to really.

Silver, if you go thru the categories subcategory, you won't get those places 3,000 miles away. You can't type in "McDonalds" first into the Nav Screen. Try the categories section first.

I think navteq has em on sale right now for 79 shipped. Might wanna try there first.

Edit: I'm dumb, somehow I thought it was 79, but it's 99 like OP said, carry on.

Ahh--excellent suggestion. I will try it.
I'm not going to buy the update...for 99.00 just not worth it. 99percent of the streets I need are there. The newer Garmin/tom tom units are leagues ahead of this Nav system. I wish we had a way of upgrading to a better software platform.

Its on the website also.

Considering it since some streets near my neighborhood were built a few years after the house. Dunno if its worth $99 for those few streets though. lol.

Does anyone know what it should say for the latest Database Area, Database Version, and Software Version when you check it?

Mine says Continental USA, 20110322, and ver 1.5000. Is this the latest version?

It was a waste for me. It didn't change anything that has been built or torn down in the last four to five years. (Lots of construction in Tulsa!)
Make sure you check the site to see what has been updated before ordering.

Well I just bought myself an update disc because I have the original disc from 2007 and it does not have all the addresses and streets of today and sometimes gives me roundabout directions to a place where it could give me more direct route if it knew a certain road exists. I am all about updating every 5 years ha

I upgraded from the stock (2006 disc with 2004 info) to the 2012 disc. Surprisingly, in my little city of Des Moines, IA, it shows things that were finished in early 2011 so it is a substantial upgrade for me.
It is still visually the same but the maps are more current, POIs are updated, the Daylight Savings change was updated.

Worth the $100 for me.
