2007 iPod Cables
2007 iPod Cables
I just purchased my 2007 TL w/Nav today and was hoping to get my 5G Video iPod working as well, but now realize that I will need to purchase some cables to make this a reality.
1) Connecting the audio
It now appears that this is easy to do in the 2007. The center armrest has a AUX port that can be used to connect to the headphone jack of the iPod. I will need to purchase a male/male cable to do this, but I was led to believe that such a cable came with the car and that is not the case. I plan to go to Best Buy to find such a cable, but if someone can point me to a better place, with more options or lower prices, that would be appreciated.
2) Charging the iPod
The only experience I have with charging my iPod (this is my first iPod and I've only had it a short while) is to use the included USB cable that connects to my PC. When I do this, not only does the iPod get charged, but it allows me to synchronize. The problem is that while connected to my PC, I cannot manipulate the iPod in any way directly. I'm hoping that there is a cable that can connect to the "bottom" port of the iPod on one end and the 12V power outlet also located in the center armrest and, of course, let me manipulate the iPod while connected so I can choose which playlist to listen to.
Most cables I've seen thus far will charge the iPod but connect to a cigarette lighter and not this (standard?) 12V power outlet.
Can anyone help me? I feel very optimistic about the stereo male/male cable existing at some store and it not being too expensive, but the charger is another story.
Of course, I wish there were some way to use the steering wheel controls to control the iPod, and that the currently playing song and other information would appear on the Nav screen, but for now, just being able to listed to my music and not run out of power while doing so would be great.
Thanks for any help!

1 thing i wish if i could do other than the ability to control the ipod through the steering wheel would be to start the ipod running where it stopped the last time i was in the car. i listen to a lot of podcast, but but for the last couple of days i would have to fast forward it manually to begin listening where i left off last time around.

Plugged that into the power adapter in the center console and used a short male to male audio cable to plug from the belkin device to the AUX input. Works great and pauses the iPod when you stop the car!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help.
I purchased a male/male audio cable from Best Buy and plugged it into the earphone outlet of my iPod and then to the AUX input in the bottom of the center armrest.
The real issue was one of my own ignorance. I've never used a power cable for a cigarette lighter but I've seen what they look like. The problem was my assumption that "dedicated power outlets" would use a different connector than those designed to work with a cigarette lighter and such is not the case. I purchased an adapter that would work with a cigarette lighter and it worked perfectly with the "dedicated power outlet" located at the bottom of the center armrest so now my iPod is getting charged when it needs it.
I just wish that the iPod would stop when I no longer wanted to listen to it, but of course I have to manually pick it up and hold down the "pause/play" portion of the "ring" to make it shut down. Otherwise it will just keep running until its own battery (or mine if I have it connected to the power adapter) runs dry. And of course changing tracks, etc. is also a manual operation where I have to manipulate the iPod directly which is why I keep it in one of the cup holders most of the time. Maybe someday they'll make a Bluetooth iPod and the Acura will link to it and be able to control it like our phones?

The good thing about the belkin device is that it also has a volume wheel on it so that you can balance the output of the ipod to match the radio volume, and it charges, and you use the audio out rather then the headphone jack.

But leaving it plugged in (because its getting it's audio from it) doesnt that weaken the battery memory inside the ipod? I have really good bat life right now (since its new) but i dont want to lower it by plugging (turn on car) unplugging (turn off car).
Will this be a problem?
I picked up the Belkin charger last week but not until today did I try it.
WOW. with the AMP built in, everything sounds really really good. I matched the amp volume with the radio/dvd etc so when switching it doesnt blow a speaker or something. But the lows are really good and highs are good. through the aux connection without the belkin the ipod sounded good , but now its really good.
just 2 questions.
1. When you stop car and remove key, the unit pauses. However, when I get back in, I need to press PLAY again. Is this the way? It's a pain because its in bottom compartment and hard to reach (specially if I forgot to do it before I started to drive).. Left hand on steering wheel and right hand reaching for IPOD in bottom compartment, now I locate IPOD and flip open leather case blindly and reach for the bottom and press play.. lol.
2. If I leave the IPOD plugged in all day to the charger each time Im driving it charges, is this going to mess up the memory in the charger where It wont hold as long? It's not really a big deal since it's going to always be plugged in.
