Wow -- A new TL concept over at TOV
I can already predict that this new concept is going to get a "love it or hate it" type reaction. I really like the exterior (21-inch rims is a bit much), but I'm not too crazy about the interior (not a fan of the red seat/kevlar trim combo). Heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise control, rear backup camera, panorama sunroof -- all the things we were hoping the production TL would have, it has...
Wow.

Beat me to it. I just checked to see if this was posted, saw it wasn't. Went to TOV to get the link. Come back, then there's your thread.
Anyway, I, on the other hand, am not too happy with the exterior, but I love the interior. I'm not a big fan of the Altezza lights. I hate it when they went that route for the MDX and I hate it even more now, eventhough the TL's is alittle better than the MDX. I don't like all the metal trimming on the air ducts and the triangle exhaust tips. Basically, I'm very happy with the way it looks now. The concept looks too "americanized". I do like the metal trimming on the trunk though. I really love the seats and the red actually makes it look really nice. I like the suede too. Not too keen on the kevlar stuff. I like the panoramic sunroof too, but how does that work for those hot sunny days?
Well, to me if only I could get those seats, the rotors, the camera, the cruise control, and the 300+ hp, I would be happy (maybe the sunroof too if there is a way to close it on those really hot days). I could care less for the other useless and ugly stuff.

That should have the people that didn't beleive that Honda couldn't get any more HP out of that engine. Also no Type-s, well it's not, but this is better. Any rumors when this might go into production?

The styling is a bit much for me, but the 300 hp engine definitely got my attention. Now all it needs is AWD and it'll be perfect. Watch it happen for 2005.

I agree with acur8ly! Acura should NOT be allowed to release any upgraded models for at least three years. People (including my wife) are already looking at me very funny after I bought 2004 TL when it hasn't even been a year since I bought 2003 TL-S!
As far as this concept, I love about half of the changes and hate the other half.

It is not a knock on the TL to acknowledge the pros and cons of having the engine and the drive wheels in the front.
As for the concept car, a little gaudy in my taste, but I love to see Honda out there making a statement, particularly in the performance arena.
Should they build it? Probably not with Altezzas and 21" wheels, but if that's the price to pay I say go for it.

pics from LA auto show debut
I got the best I could given that the lighting was not so great. These pics do reflect the Anthrocite color exterior of the A-spec concept. I too think the red interior was out there to say the least. The luggage was an interesting touch. Was not sure that they would even fit in the trunk. They did, empty though. The look is an agressive one that takes some getting used to. I for one am happy with the TL the way it is. I did get the impression that this car will see production some day within the next year. A lot of hype for nothing if it doesn't. I will post them one after the other. There are five in total.

Thanks for the pix. I hope the car is coming to the Detroit auto show in a couple of weeks so I can see it for my self.
OTOH, I would like to know how the car handles, accelerates, etc. It's one thing to see how it looks, but we need performance numbers....esp. with 300 HP.

wow, this would be worth the wait. I usually cringe at 21s, but those are sweet.
A panoramic glass roof flows back along the length of the cockpit. :wow: But as many of you ask... How about the hot days? Forgive the lack of a tecky term... Self adjusting tint maybe? The Max has a panoramic roof doesn't it. Nothing like this though!
And those vented rotors :wow:

I can't think of anything I really like about it.
The wheels make it look from the side like the "performance" version of the Chrysler 300M. The tail lights scream Mustang. The nose looks more Pontiac than ever before. The exhaust tips are too obvious, and the silver strips across the lower air inlets bring attention to a design feature that really needs to be visually de-emphasized.
I wouldn't be able to stand an interior that gaudy either. I'll keep my Abyss Blue/Quartz without any tack-ons thanks.
But, to each his own.
Mike

If it's "concept", why not Super Charge or Turbo it?
It's nice to know that we can get another 30 ponies out of this car by removing the triple cadaletic convertors...I'd give up the ULEV for the extra 30HP ANY day. But why didn't they go ahead and simply pump up the HP with a S/C or turbo? I do like the "look" of the wheels but 21's are TOO large IMHO. Any pana roof like that would have to have the self adjusting capabilties like the Benz E-series now has.

Give me the kevlar/carbon fiber, the panoramic roof, the premium leather (in black please), the brakes and suspension, and the 300hp+. Oh, and add some more goodies like a parametric EQ, another 100 watts, dome tweeters in the front and back, MP3 playback, CD/DVD on screen title/info, and touch keypad for the HFL. Then I would be seriously jealous! Keep the 21" rims and the over-the-top body styling. Sorry folks, the styling on this one just doesn't do it for me.

Wow is right, but the red interior looks awkward with dark exterior. Now this car not only looks aggressive, it looks mean! Like 1 guy in TOV said, the front reminds me of Darth Vader, which I don't want to run into in a dark alley.

I like the brakes a lot. 8 pistons.....uhm sweet.
I don't know about the concept, but things to expect for 2005 TL
- Rearview camera for backing up just like the MDX (Included with navi system)
- Card key remote keyless entry system like Honda inspire and others like mercedes and infinity FX-35.
- Power Steering column link to memory with exit feature.
- Adaptive Cruise Control as an option.
Possible AWD......have to keep up with G35 coupe. I love the ATTESA E-TS™ AWD I think is the best in the market.

Love the concept, but they can keep the red color. I'd be happy if I could just add the 15"/8 piston Brembos, the rearview camera, the adaptive cruise control, and the panoramic roof to my upcoming 6MT. (As Mr. Rodgers would put it, "Can you say....2005?")
My bet is that this version of the TL will go for 7-12K $ more than the current model if they build it. Also, if anyone wants to guess how much more the insurance would cost, consider the insurance $ difference between a 330i and an M3.

Anybody else think 21's are a bit much? I like it, but I just think they overwhelm the car. Also, if they're anything bigger than 18, you're going to replace tires every 4 months and its going to add an annual cost to the vehicle of several thousand.
Personally I don't like the red interior. However, my main concern is that it have 18 inch rims and AWD. At least thats manageable. Otherwise, it'll never sell above the snowbelt.

19's wouldn't be to bad, i think another member on the board has 19's and they don't look bad at all.
I do like the rest of the concept overall, like the aggressive look i think acura is trying to portray.

I think it's good that acura is taking big steps in styling....i just hope they're steps in the right direction. This concept car looks interesting in my opinion but i'm sure they'll tone it down a lil before producing it. Looks interesting but needs more work (and the red leather looks like crap 2 me).

I like it! Hopefully it would make into productions and maybe an option of different color for interior. Red is just not my taste. Also, I hope the price won't be too high. Anything close to $45k, M3 would be a better choice for sportiness.
