Would this be close?
So my friend has a 2002 ML55 AMG and wanted to race sometime. He claims that his car is the second fastest SUV made which I do not even know is true, fastest being the Cayenne Turbo. He says he would put money on it that he would beat me by multiple car lengths. His is bone stock and when I looked on google for 0-60 times the ML55 said 6.4secs and my 6MT TL said 6secs.
The race would be from standstill to about 80mph
I know 0-60 times do not determine the race. Will I be able to keep up with him??

I would say hell yes. You'll get the jump at the start as the AMG weighs a lot (2.5 tons). And you'll have a comfortable lead to 60 since he only does 6.4 and you go to 60 under 6 seconds (manual). I think that you should definately beat him to 80 as well but I wouldn't go over 80 cause that big bad V8 will be gone.
And no his SUV is NOT the second fastest SUV made.
here's how it goes: 1)Cayenne Turbo 0-60: 5 seconds
2)BMW X5 4.8is 0-60: 6.1 seconds
3)Infiniti FX45 + Cayenne S 0-60: 6.3 seconds
4) Mercedes ML55 AMG 0-60: 6.5 seconds
So his SUV is NOT the second fastest...more like fifth fastest.

It's a SUV... it's not meant to be racing

Finally
So we raced last night from a standstill. We got on the highway about 2AM when there weren't any cars and we were able to come to a complete stop. So off the line he was about 1/2 a car length ahead for maybe a second or so but once I got into 2nd the positions were reversed and I was about 1 to 1 1/2 ahead. We did not have a stopping point so we just kept going I was about 2 car lengths give or take around 70mph (its hard to really tell how far ahead you are at night). But at that point he started gaining and by 90 he was almost even with me again and over 100 he started edging out front. He was finally ahead of me and we stopped.
So i guess this was expected...the TL would do fine off the start vs the ML in the beginning but after 90-100mph with his V8, i had no chance

I would have thought the opposite to occur. I figured the ML55 would bolt off the line faster with the TL 6MT doing the catch-n-pass.

Actually the new Cayenne Turbo S with 520 hp is the fastest with a zero to sixty time of 4.8 seconds

im confused...did you use each gear to its max? rigth under redline?? was VSA off??? im not sure if its the same for the 3rd TLs.. but in my 02 TL when the yellow light is on it means that the VSA is off....
BUt i figured you would take it at the end... when im in third i go all the way up to 105mph...before i hit redline...cause 4th i hit a brick wall...

VSA was on, went all the way up to redline in first and second, almost to it in third, by that point i was concentrating more on the road.
Like MVTEC said, I think its because of the V8 power at the upper end is why he gained on me at the higher speeds and eventually passed.

I can feel the computer backing the car off when I am 3/4 throttle or more... almost like a limiter.
Turn it on and have some fun... it's so much more predictable IMO.

Nice race man. I knew you would for sure take him in the start, just too bad u didnt turn off ur VSA cause then u would have beat him by even more and would have probably been ahead of him the whole entire race.

1.) The Cayenne Turbo is 5.4 0-60.
2.) The Jeep Srt-8 is 4.8 0-60. (It is the fastest SUV ever)
3.) The TrailBlazer SS is 5.1 0-60.
4.) The Grand Cherokee 5.9 does 0-60 in 6.3.
Your list is way off.
Then we'll get to add the New Cayenne turbo just behind the Srt-8 because it has a slower 1/4 mile time.
