Question It won't burn out "correctly"

On the 6-speed, I cannot get the car to burn out with out shaking violently. I've had this "problem" in all Volkswagens I've owned, I think it has something to do with the motor mounts? Anyone else care to comment? (not that I burn out all the time or anything :thefinger )

Turn the VSA off and get the RPM's up to about 3500 and drop the clutch. Works fine for me

VSA off of course, but you don't get violent shaking?

Its because our cards are FWD.. My NSX 'burns out' no problem.. but FWD cards are prone to 'wheel hop' which causes the car to shake quite a bit..

I had an 01 civic and never had this problem. I always remember my Golf, New Beetle, and Jetta VR6 doing this tho. Neuspeed sells a bushing for it.

You'll get more wheel-hop if you are trying to drop the clutch on a turn. Straight on flat pavement should be no problem.

i wonder if it has anything to do with the type of tires you have too. just before i sold my '93 rx7, i put on some cheap falken tires on it and all i got was wheel hop. but when i used dunlop sp8000/9000's on it before, i was able to burn/peel out nicely even when they were worn out.

The one time I really dropped the clutch at about 3,000 rpm I got wheel hop like mad.... and I was straight as an arrow.

i would love to ride in a TL that doesnt have wheel hop during hard launch.. and see what you have done differently to achieve this. I have never driven any FWD car without wheel hop during a hard launch. (Streetable car.. did drive one with drag slicks that didnt hop).
RWD isnt nearly as much of an issue.. mid or rear engine RWD even better.. you have more weight transfer to the rear tires during launch, so you have much more downforce to keep the rubber on the pavement.

Do this at your own risk...

VSA off, 5500 RPM and feather the clutch(don't dump it hard). Oh Yeah, FIRM grip on the wheel!

One more point to add. Do it to your Turanzas...they deserve it!

Aegir...Saw the pics of your A-SPEC. Pretty Hot!
Better traction and handling, but harder to spin those 18s isn't it?

Thanks. With the better traction and the reduced weight transfer, it's much easier to get a great launch now. A huge improvement.

The problem is not the tires, the 6MT has a limited slip differential which causes traction to be transferred back and forth between both tires. when traction kicks in and out of one tire, you get wheel hop.
