Chirping 1st and 2nd Gear in 6MT

Anyone else chirping there tires when you are racing from a stop. I am chirping. Man is this thing fast too. Those Dodge Durango SLT's.. What do they have in them? Are they fast? I decided to really open up my TL the last few days since it has been nice out

with vsa off and i accelerate hard from stand still it'll sping the tires a bit. even with vsa on i managed to get a little chirp in 1st gear when i hammered it. the 3.2 liter engine has a lot of pull for all motor.

on a 6MT its way easy, just rev it a bit to like 2.5-3K and then release clutch and hammer the gas. the tires will barely catch the pavement therefore making the chirp. when shifting to 2 gear repeat the same process but rev a little higher. i dunno how you can do this in a 5AT, maybe with SS mode.

Thanks Caball, anything I should look out for while I try this? I am a novice.

Yeah it's called blowing your clutch! Unless it's covered under warranty

You are looking at a repair over $1,000. I blew a clutch in my TT from multiple clutch drops and Auto-Xing but 1 clutch is covered under Audis warranty.

Yeah, do it in a parking lot with no other cars around you......I wouldn't want you torque-steering your way over into the cars right next to you.

AHEM! Were not discussing VW Golfs here! Hondas tend to be a little more durable! :rocketwho

You can control it without damaging your car or anyone elses. I rev up to about 2500 and feather the clutch out a bit till I feel it engage. Then I slam on the gas. Rev up to about 5500 and shift into second, this is wear the chirp comes in in second.

He said he was a novice....I just don't want some rookie manual driver trying to be a speed ricer and float over into another lane and clip another car.....I still think it's best if he practices this in a parking lot or somewhere where there is no one else around.

Thanks Coop, I am gonna try this on the open. This was one of the reason I got 6mt, just didn't want to mess up the ride you know?

Thanks tripp, Yeah I am novice, but I am a good driver. I know how to NOT get out of control, even though this is unknown territory with no experience, I have had to learn how to control torque steering for long time....since all my cars were FWD.

I will practice in parking lot first....then its ON!!!

Cool with me...I just didn't want you to try it on a road with traffic and then fuc* up your new car. Hell, I'm just envious that my commute is only 2 minutes one-way each morning.

2 minutes??? holy cow why now just walk?

oh yeah you can also get the tires to chirp if you get the car engaged in first gear and its just starting to roll. release the clutch and hammer the gas(make sure vsa is off). the tires will spin a bit.

Yeah....it's a 9 minute walk which I do most days when it's not bad out....living and working downtown has it's advantages.

I just drive aimlessly on the weekends just to put miles on the dam* thing!!!

Just a chirp?

You can do better than that!

When I had the Turanza's on the car, it was pretty easy to completely break the front tires loose on launch and on the shift into second - with VSA on. With VSA off I was definitely traction limited. Definitely more than a chirp. Yes, I know how to drive and I wasn't specifically trying to send those tires to an early grave - just launching and shifting hard to see what the car could do. Better tires really improved things.

Maybe I have a ringer?

Coop- I am anticipating the meet as well. I have been concentrating on saving some dough so I can mod this car a little. Hopefully when weather is nice on a saturday we should get all TL's to meet...........of course I am representing NBP!!!!!!

Before the meet I want to get,

Tint
Deck lid Spoiler
intake

Should be about 800 USD all together.....

Banging into 2nd (on the manual) always spins them. Mine don't tend to chirp, though; just spin a bit. Actually, I was surprised at how much mine spun into 2nd this morning... It wasn't just a minor break in traction, but a decent spin.

Chirping can be fun but it a good way to put some wear on the transaxle. I would not make it it a regular practice.

Moving to 18's didn't change my launch RPM. I get a better launch around 2500. At 3500 I get some tirespin and wheelhop before they grab. Another negative side effect is the voice activation system come on and says "Please don't do that to me again, or I'll turn into a man!"

For day to day spirited driving, a smoother launch is obviously much better for the car - even if it costs a tenth or two.
