Many people swear by Huper Optik ceramic, but be prepared to pay a lot for it.

And Llumar is just one brand of film. And they have dyed, metallic, and semi-metallic films.

The cheapest way to go is dyed film, but it will be darker to the eye and will tend to fade quicker than the other stuff. But it won't interfere with radio or satellite signals, either.

You can get a dyed tint done in most areas for about a hundred bucks, so if it fades before you trade your car, just get it redone!

It's http://www.formulaone.com/. The ceramic version is called the Pinnacle Series. I just had this installed on Friday, so I have yet to clean it up, but so far I'm very happy with it.

I guess this bears repeating.

Page 3 of the Navi Owner Manual says that the use of metallic tint on the back window will interfere with the GPS signal reaching the antenna which is located under the rear package shelf.

For those of us who have used hand-held GPS in a vehicle, we know that they don't work well inside the car. The signal from the satellites drops significantly unless you put the hand-held up on the dash under the windshield.

We are also familiar with dropping cell phone calls inside a building and needing to step outside to place a call. Metallic tint also reduces the signals from a cell phone inside a car... but it might still be able to work if the signal is strong.

In an area with strong satellite signals, free from blockage, the deterioration of the satellite signal with metallic tint may not be bad enough to stop it from working. The Navi system also uses gyroscopes to determine turns and directions. It can "speculate" on position, using a sort of "dead reckoning" in between reliable satellite fixes, correcting when it gets the chance. But, as noted by the previous poster, it's not always accurate.

In areas of weak signals or blockage of signals by tall buildings, etc., the accuracy suffers even more.

Several Navi owners have reported that they have metallic tint and the Navi still works- but less accurately. (or less quick to update position)

Tint shops universally tell you "We've done a million of them! You can use metallic and you don't need moleskin."

So, it comes down to who you believe. Acura or tint shops? And, what value do you place on having your $2,000 Navi work as designed and intended with the most accuracy?

It only matters if it matters. You pays your money and takes your chances. Or not.
