Windows Tint

Yea, it's been a known problem from day one. A number of members have experienced sever scratching and a few have had none. The glass is a tad thicker than other windows and the rubber wipers located inside the doors appear to be the culprit. Installing moleskin (felt) on the wipers have prevented scratching and is probably the best fix right now. You can get a kit from one the vendors, flnsx or try to find it yourself.

The window tint shop I used quoted me a price with the felt installed in the doors. He said lots of newer cars don't come with the felt on the window mechanisms anymore. Rubber wiper scratches the tint really fast!

Man you better get that moleskin or dont get tint. I'm still pissed off about the scratches on my tinted windows. I'm thinkning about taking the tint off. And yes the scrathes are deep and noticable from the outside as well. The rubber insulations holds all types of fine deris that rubs against your tint.

i just installed moleskin to my car today and after an hour of fumbling around and not knowing what to do, i finally was able to do it. total install time took me about 2 hours because im a newb at installing anything.
here is my advice. save yourself an immense amount of money and go to an arts and craft store and buy the moleskin yourself. i bought it from the vendor on this forum and for the amount that i paid, he couldnt even print me instructions with color. i had so much trouble trying to decipher the pictures that i had to go online and look up the do it yourself instructions. plus with the money i spent on buying from this guy, he couldnt even precut the felt. not trying to bash him but needless to say that i was pretty pissed that i wasted so much money buying from him.
the moleskin shouldnt cost more than $5 at any arts and craft store so save yourself some money and buy it there.

I don't know how it is for the 3rd gen TLs but in my 02 TL-S I got my tint in November 2001 or Jan 2002 (I purchased the car in 01, its a 02 model) and my tint is still in good condition. No scratches at all. Just look around for good shops that do a good job on tinting. And after you get them just take care of them. I get my car detailed every so often. I got my done at California Tint in VA. Im not sure if they are still around. As of now the condition on my tints is fairly good condition. Up to this point there no fading or changing to the color purple like others do (knock on wood).
So just get them don't worry about that. When i got them i didnt worry about scratching. I worried most about fading or discoloration and the cops.
