Window tint.....
What is the best percentage for tint? I like the look a a real dark tint, but don't want to have a lot of trouble at night. Is there a particular brand of tint or color/ percentage that you'd recommend?

I think 35% all around is fairly good. Don't make the mistake that I did by having the driver's/passenger windows a lighter tint and the back ones very dark. Not only is it difficult to see out at night but the automatic day/night mirror doesn't work.

20%
I have 20%tint/20% mirror. It's very nice for prying eyes, and I see out of it just peachy fine at nite, no real difference. I have the metal based tint, not a dye based tint. Doesn't bug the mirror at all, but does keep it much cooler and keeps people from snooping. And is illegal in Georgia at 20%, 32% is legal here.

I don't think using different levels of tint front to back looks good, unless you want your TL to look like a minivan or sport ute. They usually have those really dark rear windows.
I think the same level all the way around looks best and going too dark in the rear is bad at night time. There are a lot of good films out there that block the heat and aren't that dark.

You can legally have a maximum of 35% Net tint in Massachusetts. According to this site: http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/
People [in Massachusetts] with 35% tint have been given tickets for tinting due to light meters reading less than 35% since car glass can have from 70% to 90% window tint.

thanks for the responses. I think I might go with what is legal in MA, only so that I won't have any trouble at all. I ordered my TL with the Black interior so maybe that might help keep it a little dark inside.
Are there any brand names that you guys know of? Or is it just the luck of the draw when going to a window tinting company?
Up here in MA, we have a company called Tint King. I guess it does such a good job that they are booked up for weeks in advance. Anyone know of another good place in MA?

A lot of the dealers are throwing in tint that is non-metalized (ie, dye tint). I live in Texas and the better the heat rejection, the more I like it, so I went with the metalized tint. I found out who does the tint for one of the local dealers and went to them to get my tint done - about $70 cheaper from what I recall.
I think I got something like 15% or 20% in the back and I can see fine out of it at night. The side 4 windows were 35% I believe. Make sure the %age is legal in your state.
I was going to go with Huper Optik for the film, but that would've cost me at least $400+tax for slightly more heat rejection. I decided to go with Llumar Centaur tint. It cost me about $220.
Some good name brands you film you can use : Madico, Llumar, and Huper Optik.
BTW, my car is black/ebony and I live in Dallas, so I'll be cooking.

pics of tint
And one disadvantage of a dye based tint over a metallic is the dyebased can turn the horrible purple, just a warning.
The first pic is looking out the other side so you can see it's not that dark from the inside-out. I'll post one of the outside in next

Good luck to other tinters! examine closely and you may see the same, this was reported a while back by one poster that thier tint place refused to tint the windows as they would scratch?
