Window roll down from key fob

I have noticed when I try to use this feature from a distance greater than 20 ft the window only goes down abuout 3 inches. I need to be under the 20ft distance for the window to go all the way down. This happen to anyone else?

I have opened the doors from over 100 feet, but never tried the windows at any distance.

Having nothing better to do, I just went and tested the windows. I walked out 50 feet from my metal garage door, which was closed, which made the distance about 60 feet from the receiver which is located by the left front windshield, and the windows and moonroof opened all the way. That's good reception, in my opinion.

You might check your batteries, and if they are good, get the service manager to test your remote system.

Ron A, thanks for your experiment at this late night. I wonder the same thing but would like to wait for your reply first. acur8ly, we all have early build 04TL, the battery may be the factor.

However, I'm still able to remote my car lock/unlock more than 60-80 feet away. Would try roll down windows tomorrow.

Just got my TL a week ago so please excuse my ignorance. How do you roll down the windows with the key fob?

ftlay:

1) Press the "Open" button on the key fob once: Doors unlock.

2) Release the "Open" button on the key fob.

3) Press and hold the the "Open" button down, and the windows + moon roof will continue to open.

I have found that I need to do step (3) multiple times to get the windows to open fully. I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to work, or if my fob's transmitter is a bit weak. I do wish that I could open the windows a lot further away, though - Usually, the windows are still going down as I get to the car.

Living in the south, this is one of my favorite features. Since it takes a few seconds to fully open up the car (which I want by the time I get to the car), I often start opening from a good distance. At about 100 feet or more it usually stops at some point. I just hit the open button again as needed to get them all the way open.

Also very nice is the all close capability with the key. When I ride with all windows and SR open, it is nice to just stop and after I get out close everything at once. To close everything when you are in the car you must hit the SR button, hit both front window buttons, and hold the rear window buttons. Much easier with the key.

Update:

I could roll down windows as far as my remote (lock/unlock) could reach. As I said above, it's more than 60-80 feet in most of occassions.

Thanks for the info guys. It may be a problem with my car. I have no trouble unlocking from distances. It may be the battery like Ron A said, I will switch it out before I take my car in for next service visit. It may be that the antenna (if there is one) may be loose or something. On a side note, the driver 2 fob does the same thing and that never gets used.

I agree the range is too limited.

The key, as an earlier post indicated, is you have to HOLD the FOB button down until the windows are all the way down.

You put the key in the lock and turn it to the left twice. Hold it there the second time.

Sucks that we can't do this with the fob, though.

Another key fob post... well I push the unlock twice and on the second push I HOLD the button and all of the windows open as they should. Had not run in to any problems with them stopping but then I don't usually attempt to use my remote at large distances.

I posted this in another key fob post but feel it is important... so here is one saftey tip for you all. Security experts say when approaching your car, have your keys ready and in your hand. Be aware of suspicious looking people or vehicles in the area. If you have a key fob, wait until you are close to the car. Too many people push the range of their remotes and opening their car from to long of a distance such that a criminal can get to their car before they can.

For more info on the famous, and reportedly effective "chin method", go here http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91315

And we appreciate it, but without the link, next week when this thread is not on the same page as the other one, people will not know where you got that from. So I gave the link, and now everyone will know what the "chin method" means.

And more and more people will be seen in parking lots talking to their key fobs. And other people will think they have the smallest cell phone in the world.

On a related note. I test drove a Mercedes C320 a few weeks ago. They also allow you to open everything with the Key FOB. But they go a step further. When you get in the car, there is a button on the dash you can push that closes everything with one touch.

As much as I like the feature on the TL here in Houston, it is kind of a pain to re-close everything. (and for you G35 bashers - the G35 has auto UP windows for all four windows which also makes this an easier system).

If the sunroof is popped up in the vent position then it will not open with the windows.

Very good to know. Unfortunately, I rarely leave it open. The point of keeping the sun roof closed was to prevent the sun from beaming directly into the car - i.e. leaving the slider closed. I guess the sun roof could be "vented" while the slider is closed, but it doesn't seem like a good idea. Thanks for the info, though. It's good know what can and can't be done.
