Where to purchase K & N Filter
#2
I was going to get mine at Pep Boys, but they do not have the new part numbers yet they said. So I was like - huh? it's October!! 2005's are already rolling out. So I contacted K&N directly and they do not even have them made yet! There were some posts here that said how the original ones were not fitting 100% but if you trimmed them they were OK. Now you can't even find a part number on K&N website for the '04 TL Air Filter.
Somewhere somebody goofed.

I like the Japanese OEM filters - very high quality. I do use a K&N in my S2000, but I run so few miles, that the increased silicon in my oil does not worry me. Plus, i have made extensive intake modifications, so the car can actually benefit from the increased air flow capability - I say capability, because most of the restrictions in an intake system are downstream of the air filter. K&N's ads are very optimistic, both in the peformance they offer, and their filtering quality. The seals of K&N are cheap - plastisol. AFE uses silicone rubber. I have seen K&N applications where the seal was not occlusive, allowing tons of dirt to enter the system - a good check is to use bearinbg grease on the seal - if it is not uniformly displaced when the cover is snapped in place, there is a real risk of air bypassing the filter. Not worth a small benefit, IMO.

I installed the K&N CAI filter on my TL and dont have any complaints. I wasnt concerned with AEM or Injen or whatever the hell else was out there, I havent had any problems with the K&N. I ordered it through my shop if you are interested in getting one for you TL.

K&N took the TL off the listing for this filter. if you search for the part number from K&N's site and click applications, it will only list mostly BMWs. like what we posted before, we purchased and installed it. so far we have not problems. i've had it for 13,000 miles now.

I only see RSX as an option on that site? No TL filters?
