What for a Transmission oil?

I read the new transmission oil is the ATF DW 1 in Germany we use ATF Z1!
What is better DW 1 or Z1?

OP, read this...

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/optimal-percentage-racing-atf-834299/

In short, you'll want to use a combination of Redline D4 and Redline Type-F fluid. (1 quart D4 and 2 quarts of the Type-F).

Z1 is discontinued, I'd recommend Red Line.

I use DW1. 151k miles on my original tranny (2005). Regular fluid changes as well as changing the 3/4 transmission switches.

Even the owners manual says it's okay to use Dexron 3 or higher (in every GM auto), that might be easier for you to find than Red Line or OEM Honda fluids. The reason Honda says to use their fluid is for shift smoothness. The stock fluid has a lot of friction modifiers which leads to smooth shifts but also lots of wear. Dexron or a blend of Red Line D4/Type F will make if shift a little firmer but not hurt the trans, if anything it will last longer as it doesn't allow the clutches to slip as much. No passenger would be able to tell the difference in shift quality, you'll barely notice as the driver.

How about some pics of your car? Where did you get it imported from? I thought they were only available in the US/Canada/China.

Wow, it's so interesting how many different opinions there are on this. I'll add mine to the list--my theory (hope) is that the Honda engineers would know best what kind of fluid works with their transmission design. Honda has a serious vested interest in the reliability and long life of their vehicles, and design their fluid specifically for their transmissions.

I use the newer Honda DW1 (that replaced Z1).

Here's what Ive been running. I've used this since Z1 has been discontinued. My transmission is original, no pressure switches, no repairs.

Everyone might have their preference but this has worked great for me!

I rarely ever use sport shift, IMO it's not very responsive.

It´s so Amazing! and it little bit crazy some tranny don´t damage and other do it!

And engine are 3.2 V6 this is a good motor no Turbo and high capacity and adequate performance! By Engine is it small performance and high capacity lives forever! So it can be a very long time

I'm always amazed at these threads. That eneos is a DexIII fluid. Use a Dex III fluid of your choice and it will last much longer than on the factory fluid. Redline D4 is DexIII. Pressure switches should be changed every 3 years for maximum life. A car with nearly 300k miles has seen mostly freeway use. When the car is cruising down the freeway it's not shifting so no wear is occurring to the clutches. If the clutches aren't used they can't wear out. It's great that its gone that many miles but it needs to be put in perspective.

I Hate Cars, thanks for all your input on TL transmissions--thanks to your input I've changed the switches on my '08 Type S, and it's now shifting well (at 85K), and probably saved my tranny long term.

Can you please expand on the use of Dexron III? I want to use what is best for the long life of my transmission. Can you explain exactly why this is better than Honda's DW1? Are there any tests comparing the two? What brand or blend of Dexron III do you think is the best for the TL transmission?

Thanks bro, I'm a new TL owner and am learning here, and am trying to separate speculation (which is what I'm doing when I choose DW1 simply because it's an OEM Honda product), from fact. Thanks as always for sharing you experience!
