so i got an email yesterday saying that all my acurazine posted pics hosted by photobucket are being deactivated unless i buy their plus 500 package, which is $40 per month!! i'm definitely not doing that but i'm super bummed because i have over 9 years of write ups, tutorials, and progress that i have done on acurazine and put a lot of time/effort into.
would any moderator be willing to help me and replace the pics in my threads (or even just the "first" post of my writeups) if i paid for the first month and took screen shots of what picture goes where? I would then either do the post with direct pictures or use another site (flickr or imgur).
long story short, if i gave a moderator the pictures in the right order, would they be able to replace my existing pics in some of my threads? or possibly give me access to replace those pics in my threads?
so bummed about this, what a scam from photobucket. i wonder how many "old timer" users like me have their pics blocked now
That really sucks, though Photobucket has been progressively getting worse, to the point where I don't even click pictures anymore if they're on PB. It takes forever to load, pops up a message wanting money, etc. Sounds like they're on their last legs, holding people's pics hostage for $$$. I really hope the mods are able to fix your writeups though, and I appreciate you caring enough to actually put effort into fixing them. As a TL newbie, I've definitely come across plenty of posts on here that look like they would have been useful, if they didn't have broken image links.
BTW, are they completely holding your pics hostage, or just the public viewing of them (i.e. are you able to download the pics privately after logging in)?

Pat
appreciate that, i try to make my write ups help people avoid some of the headaches/questions i went through
i still have access to the pics and i still have thousands on my computer (and backed up twice), it's just they can't be seen through a 3rd party website such as acurazine. they show up as blank squares saying i need to purchase a package. they are still in my photobucket account

Yeah.. PB has been doing this ransomware tactic for a long time..
and if you gave me the links in the right order, I can go in and manually edit your posts for you
thanks man! so if i upload my pics into a new site (flickr or imgur, what do people recommend more??) and give you the links in order for the pics for a few of my write ups, you would be able to replace them? just want to make it as easy as possible for you since it's extra work.
turns out if i hover over my broken picture in acurazine, i can match it up with my photobucket account picture titles, so i won't have to buy a month of photobucket to know the order of pics, but it will take some time
how do i upload pics from flickr into acurazine?

Reason: Merged Posts
copy image URL. sometimes, photo sharing sites make it hard to find the actual Image URL.
but once you have that....use the tags! [img] photohosting.com[/img] with no spaces
or acurazine automatically upload it to their server if you use the mountain button next to the smiley face button

I am so lost using flickr right now. going to have to look more into it at lunch, thanks man!
Is it just me or has Acurazine been REALLY buggy lately?
technically, it's always buggy.
it's software! so, who ever is coding will change something for the better...but then unintended consequences pop up.
like cant embed youtube...or double flickr post.

oh ok so the double flickr post is normal? so annoying though, that's why i deleted it haha

management knows of double flickr post.
and yes, i'm privy to deleted post.
sneaky sneaky haha.
when i post a source code for flickr, for some reason it makes a slideshow of all photos in that album that can be accessed by clicking the arrow. how do i prevent that and just get a single pic instead of a clickable slideshow? i'm not very bright...
bout to leave the office for the day. but i do see the slideshow that you're talking about. i havent messed with flickr in a few years, maybe thoiboi has those answers
Damn, I have a lot of DIYs using Photobucket too.
When Imageshack did the same thing, they offered a program to download all your pictures to your desktop before a certain date.
Hoping Photobucket has something similar.
I just checked and I have 3400 images on there, dating back from 2007. Looks like I'm downloading each album by album.
You guys scared me when I heard someone say they're holding your pictures hostage.
That's not true - you're able to download them and reupload them elsewhere thankfully.
To post flickr images, you have to click on the download button (arrow pointing down) right beside the fullscreen button. It's bottom right of the picture.
Then click view all sizes. From there you can select an image size, and then right click it and click copy image location and then put that into acurazine img tag when posting.

I know this is a huge drag and that everything has to be reuploaded, but there is a bright side.
Photobucket uses your image name in the image url.
So like you had a picture called DIY1.jpg, and DIY 2.jpg, etc...
Photobucket uses those names in the image url so it'll be much easier to replace your broken images.
If Photobucket used random image url naming like flickr and imgur does, you'd have a big headache figuring out which image you used, or which image came first.
For the part about updating the posts, correct only the mods can do it.
I would advise you open up your thread and click the "quote" button to your OP. When you do so, you see all the code, etc for your post.
There you can replace the links, and then what you do once all the links are updated is PM a mod to update the whole post with the new code.

1. Go to flickr photostream.
2. Click on picture.
3. Bottom right of the picture there's a arrow pointing downwards to download. Click it and click "View All Sizes". (i selected 800x600)
4. Now you right click on the picture and click "Copy image address" if you're using chrome.
5. Create post on AZ.
6. In the post where you want the picture, you use [ img ]image address[ img ] (no spaces in brackets)
Thanks for taking such immediate action with this sockr1 ! It's such a shame/scam that affects not only many Acuraziners, but bloggers all over the world.

Bloggers shouldn't be using 3rd party image hosting anyway!!
yeah man, I started getting photobucket crap about this a few months ago...such crap, but I've been using Flickr also, and moved all my photos over there lol
Yes, this seems to be a real problem. That's great that you are willing to put the time into moving your PB images and uploading them directly to the threads so they are hosted here.
I was just looking at a post today and couldn't get any useful info because PB links are dead.
I never liked/used Photophucket, and now I know why. Many threads look like this now.
It seems like they're going about this the wrong way... the people that put all the effort into doing writeups with pictures, getting nothing in return, have little incentive to pay money to let people view those posts... since they no longer need the information/pics.
They should really be selling 3rd party image viewing to the consumers of the information. For example, if I'm trying to change a timing belt, and all the pics are gone... I'd probably be willing to pay a few bucks to see the post with the pictures. Though, I guess in that case, one person would pay, then pull all the images and re-host them.
Either way... screw Photobucket. Obviously they thought they could make a few bucks by holding pics hostage, rather than putting out a notice saying that 3rd party hosting would be discontinued on a certain date... like a legitimate company would do.

The problem is, if you use the AZ toolbar icon for embedding a photo, even if it is from a non-Photobucket source, Photobucket puts a wrapper around it. The only way to get around the issue, as has already been mentioned, is to add your own IMG and /IMG (with leading and trailing square brackets) tags to the URL of the photo.

I recall there being a code for just the image source from photobucket without the "wrapper" aka bbcode
