Weird feeling when Braking
I have come to a quick stop twice recently and I have felt something weird in the brakes. Almost like it made a weird sound and I swear I could feel something weird in the brake pedal.
Anyone else experience this? Just feels like something isn't "right".

he might be talking about one of the features im not sure what its called but if u are even in an emergency braking situation, and u press on the brake a certain amount going at certain speeds. the car will automatically depress the brake a little more for u because most people while driving tend to not press on the brake very hard. its cool...u can see it while driving if ur ever at a stoplight and u press down on the brake hard and hold it....then ull see the brake settle in a little

You will have to elaborate this "wierd" a bit more for someone to help you...what is it...thumping, pulsating ???

Well... at least he spelled it right!
I think at his age, he would know what ABS feels like. He could be talking about the emergency brake assist, but I don't think it makes any noise.
But yeah, can you be more descriptive?

Sorry for the over use of "weird". I was in a hurry because my two month old baby was starting to cry. So I didn't re-read the post afterward.
This has only happened twice and each time it caught me by surprise. When I tried to recreate it, it wouldn't do it. So it did seem weird to me.
Anyway, I believe it may have depressed a little and I think it did make a knock or something. I usually have the radio on (loud a lot too) and it was hard to hear both times. I thought maybe someone would still know exactly what I meant.
When I got out of the car, I even wondered if something broke and I looked under the car. It just didn't seem "right". Maybe it's working as designed and is brake assist -- I don't know.
I've had the car about two weeks and I'm still trying to figure it out.
Anyway, I've owned a BMW 3 series, a Porsche Boxster, then a 2004 5 series of late and I've never felt anything similar.

not sure about a knock exactly, but what i can say is that sometimes i feel a greater sensation of breaking when i don't apply any more or less pressure to the brakes... it could be the tranny shifting down harder, but sometimes it feels as if i either shifted from 5th to 2nd hard or hit the brakes harder ... does this makes sense to anyone...anyone have anything similar or know what i'm talking about?
Folsom: what you were feeling was the ABS engaging. It's a good thing, you should feel "something wierd" when braking very hard suddenly. It will feel almost like a grinding or rapid pulse. The first time it happened to me I thought I had done something bad, but that's normal for a hard sudden stop.

In my experience, that only happens (at a stoplight) when the a/c compressor kicks in which raises the idle slightly. This, in turn, increases the brake boost. Hondas are notorious for this aggravating 'feature'.

Thanks guys! I'm really liking this forum.
I used to use the new BMW 5 Series Forum (www.e60.net) because I had a 5 and it was the best forum I have ever been a part of.
Looking forward to being more active here.
