Wanted: Advice from First Hand experiences in Vehicle replacment with Acura

A "friend" is currently in negotiations with Acura concerning replacement of a 06 TL. He does not want to discuss the details of the reason and does not expect anyone else to disclose any of their details.

What we are looking for is your experience with the process. Honda has yet to sent the non-disclosure paper work and would appreciate any first hand knowledge or guidence in this process.

PM's are fine if you don't want to post.

A few more details may be required... Is you friend trying to trade his 06 for an 07 because he wants a new car, or is he trying to have Acura replace his 06 due to problems, i.e. Lemon Law?

Circumstances will dictate what type of experience you are looking for!

I sent you a response to your PM before I read that you have already reached agreement that the car is going to be replaced. Your file is likely going to be referred to the arbitration group (CA I think). Get the number for them and call the person in arbitration who is handling your matter directly. If you just let Client Services run the show, it will sit on someone's desk in the arbitration group forever. The arbitration person is the one who actually set the terms of the deal with me. The first offer he made was just that--a first offer. If they have agreed to buy it back--they know they messed-up. You should not take any kind of financial loss for this. They will come-up with charges they would like to pass along to you. Always go back to the bottom line that you should not take any kind of a hit.

Here's the lae in Jersey:
Under the New Jersey Lemon Law, which states that if a consumer has a problem in the first 18,000 miles or 24 months, which ever comes first, and the problem continues to occur despite a reasonable number of repair attempts, the consumer is entitled to seek remedy from the manufacturer. The maximum remedy is a full refund of purchase, including all taxes, tags and finance charges, minus a small mileage offset.

The key is that I do not believe the OP is acting under the lemon law. Acura is doing a voluntary buy back.

Not that it helps as a different make, but years ago I had Mazda buy back a RX-7 Turbo. After some negotiating they discounted the mileage, then gave me a new model year RX-7 Turbo at the dealer's cost. Mazda and I split the difference between the two values.

thank all. The arbitrator is on vacation the next week so i won't hear anything for a while. I guess it gives them time to find my exact car or have it built.
