Visor Strip Windshield Tint Yay or Nay?

I need to get window tint put on and I've already decided on going 5% in the back and 50% in the front, but wanted to get everyone's opinion on the visor strip tint. Here is how I had it done on my last car...

IMG_0226.jpg?t=1302749775

My buddy is really good at tinting and said if I want he can custom cut it so that the edges dont droop on the sides, which gives kind of a different look, more oem looking. The way this is where you use the edge of the tint so its a perfectly straight line looks a little bit ricer sometimes. I like having it because sun in the eyes sucks, but I want to keep it OEM looking.

Thoughts?

Yeah but it'll look out of place because of the dots at the top of the glass and where the rearview mirror is.

My buddy says that since the blue part is dark enough you wouldnt even be able to see the dot matrix. Im thinking I am gonna have him do a cut across to follow the blue line, let you know how it turns out.

Anyone else get that part tinted on their TL?

Ugh.... well first off IMO 5% on back windows mixed with 50% tint on the fronts is going to look kinda crummy... I always say if your going to tint your car use the SAME percentage all around for the cleanest most consistant look. Not only that but 5% is just too dark and you cant see through it at night. 5% tint is ok on a limo, or maybe some hood caprice classic with 24's, but not a nice TL. I also say no on the windshield strip. 20% or 35% all around is the way to go.

I totally recommend it. Keeps glare out of your eyes and lends additional privacy. Word of caution though, in certain territories cops are specifically looking for this. Those are in states that don't allow tint on the windshield at all. Some state laws allow you to tint up to 6" or a line on the windshield you can see called the AS1 line. These states will usually not hassle you.

When in NJ i got pulled over and ticketed TWICE in the same area for it! I told the cop that it is legal in my state. As usual the cop didn't care. I didn't stress, fought it in court by providing a copy of my state's law and a pic of my car measured down. My tint is lower than the AS1 line but he didn't notice it. Got the ticket dropped by the DA both times. They expect you to pay because it was only like $60 ticket (pure money making here) and most people would deem it a waste of time to fight. I honestly didn't want to strip the tint and reinstall. It depends for most people but for me it is the price to pay for something I want to keep.

Pallisades Pkwy police are the WORST in the state! They will specifically LOOK for this! As a matter of fact they have roadblocks on onramps to look with no mercy for equipment violations like tint/plates. STEER CLEAR!! I swerve away from onramps if I see traffic and take 9W. It's a definite trap! They will wave stock cars by. All you will see on the shoulder is hooked up cars pulled over. I have no problems now.

I can understand why you might think that. When I had my Mustang, I did 20% all the way around and it did look good, but I regretted not going darker in the back. Then when I got my eclipse, I went 5% all the way around and it looked sick. But, I was getting tickets constantly for it.

So when It came time for the TL, I still wanted it really dark in the back, but I dont want trouble with tickets so just 50% is fine for me. I will post up some pics in a bit.

Also I went with having the guy cut it straight across the blue line, and I think it looks pretty good.

I only look the look if it fades once it gets lower on the windsheild. Kind of like stock but obviously darker and lower. Otherwise it looks to drastic.

Anyone know where i can find something that fades?

They might make some tints like that but it would be hard to come by and you would need a skilled tinter to do it. I know ive seen some tints that fade from black to like a mirror look, which was pretty terrible looking, but just saying they make tints that fade.
