Spare key

Hi all.

Am new to this forum.

Bought a used 2008 TL and need an extra key. After buying and having the parts dept cut the key, the dealer wants $90.00 to program the key. Is this something the factory shop manual gives instructions on doing?

Thanks!

Welcome to AZ!! Take a look at this thread in the garage for instructions to program your key.

That would be the instructions to program the remote, not the key

What the dealer is charging you $90 for is to program the immobilizer chip (inside the key).

Without programming the immobilizer, your key can unlock doors but it won't be able to start the car.

I had my immobilizer programmed for $55 at my Acura dealer.
Ask around from other dealers, because the price could vary from $50-$150

I stand corrected. Also check with locksmiths and perhaps your Honda dealer.
