Vinyl wrapped roof on KBP?
Thinking this is going to be my next aesthetic mod that I do to my car. Haven't decided if I want to do a gloss black, matte black, or satin black. I was looking for pictures of a KBP with a wrapped roof but haven't been able to find any. Has anyone seen a KBP with a wrapped roof before? I think it would look good. It seems to look good on cars with highly contrasting colors such as silver/black white/black or cbp/black.

Choosing what color to go with is hard. I am looking at straight gloss black, gloss black carbon fiber, and matter carbon fiber. I think gloss black will look the best and flow as one with my tinted rear windshield.
Here's the carbon fiber gloss black that I am looking at:
If I don't use this for the roof and go with the regular non carbon fiber gloss black, I will likely use this for my front grille.

Looks good on CBP but it would look so much better if the car was tinted out so it all blended together as one. The car in the pics in that thread doesn't have tint from what I can tell.

Definitely gloss black. I think anything else will clash with the gloss black appearance of the sunroof. The glass is tinted dark and it looks awesome with gloss black around it.
Did it on my 04 DGP TL myself with 3m 1080 Scotchprint vinyl.

Those pics aren't good quality though! Can't see a thing!!! Looks like that user's been inactive for a while as well.
Yeah...gloss black is probably the best/safest bet

I picked mine up here:
http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-108...ap-s/19976.htm
I went with the oracal rapid air gloss black vinyl, its coming off soon though my car is going in for paint next month and the roof will be painted NBP afterwards.
The owner of the shop it's going in to was a little surprised it was vinyl when I mentioned it, it looks more like paint. The oracal has a little orange peel to it. If I was going to do it again I'd probably go with the 3M 1080 though, but the oracal has a longer warranty than the 3M for its ability to be removed without taking off your clear coat.
You can see the color difference if your roof gets dirty though between the sat antenna and the vinyl roof, also you can't wax the vinyl, I've used aerospace 303 protectant on it since I installed it. Bird crap will etch right into it if its on there for any duration of time as well.
I've always bought vinyl from that site, you can almost always google a coupon code to use with them and their shipping fees are cheap (important for me being in Hawaii).
I think I had to use a 5'x7' sheet for the roof, I remember I tried to get away with like 5'x6' or something one time when I measured it and it ended up being like an inch too short.
It's worth it to have a shop do the roof for you, since its a really big piece of vinyl. When I had mine done I did all the prep work, removed sat antenna, weather channels and the front glass molding so all the shop had to do is clean and lay it, was like $40 for install that way.
You can get the sat antenna off without dropping the entire headliner too, going through the interior light in the rear once you remove it.

I was wrong on my sizes above actually, I think the first time I tried to do it 5'x4'. It measures out pretty close to 5'x4' with tape if I recall correctly.
I ended up going with a bigger sheet and bought a 5'x7' sheet and used the extra to wrap the grey piece on the A-Spec front underspoiler (that was easy, using the knifeless finish-line tape) and the center of the Type-S rear underspoiler (not so easy due to the curves) myself.
I think there's a guy that sells the vinyl pre-cut for the moon-roof but honestly if you buy a big sheet and remove all of that trim it's really easy for an installer to cut the moon roof hole once its layed on the roof and wrap the edges down using a heat gun.
Just have to open the moon roof and remove the little thing that sticks up when its open, it's only like 2 phillips and a couple springs. Might have to re-cal the moon roof for it to close afterwards though once its back together.
Also with the trim off an installer would have to screw up to cut into your paint if he used an exacto knife to trim the vinyl. There are large gaps on all four edges once the trim and molding is removed, making it really easy to heat the vinyl, wrap it down and trim it without touching the paint on your roof.
I replaced the molding on the front glass afterwards, so that was an added cost you might consider, but only like $12 if I remember right.

I have a KBP and I just got the roof vinyled in Gloss Black. I will try to post pics when i get home. I also got my grill vinyled in Satin Black. I like how it looks . The KBP color is dark so the roof doesnt really stand out as much but is still a nice touch i think. I started a thread on vinyl wrapping and never got around to updating it with pics lol

Who makes a good gloss black wrap? I'm getting this done to my KBP Type-S on Friday. I just need to supply him with the material. Also does anyone know much much I'll need? I don't have the car handy.
Thanks!

@barbarian. Looks good. I wanna wrap it now but I wanna leave the antenna blue now. I think on pay day I'll hit a tint shop that did my car and see what they tell me. Price wise lol And for the poster that said they painted it. Why wouldn't u just wrap it so that it can be easily removable so u have more resale value????.. Just my two cents
