Black Vinyl Roof on 2008 CBP - Thoughts?

Hey guys-

Recently came across some pics of some TLs with Black Vinyl Roof Overlays and though they looked awesome, not to mention a quick and cheap way to make your car stand out (as I see 2 other CBPs everyday driving to work!). Just curious if anyone knows of others with this color who have done it and possibly some pictures? I have scoured the site and internet with no avail. Thanks!

There are several members here with white diamond pearl TL's with black vinyl roof overlays. Have not seen CBP with them but doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I don't think that anyone has done that combination yet. CBP is not that dark so the contrast will be there, you can give it a shot and see how you like it, if you're not feeling it, it's reversible. GL

I was thinking of the same thing..make sure to post pics if you've done it. I'm sure it will look nice with your tints on.

Went ahead and ordered it - figured always try it out I guess. If it looks good I'm planning on getting the NBP XM antenna and a roof spoiler (possibly wrapped as well?) Might be a few weeks but I will try to get some pics up.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time but a lot of places around my area don't like using vinyl because its a bitch to deal with.

try wrapping your xm before you actually buy a new one. I was able to get pretty good results by using a lot of heat and stretching

it'll look sick, make sure to post pics after!

I will find the picture of the anthracite TL with a black roof, but it would look good.

I sell vinyl if anyone is interested as well.,

Try searching up professional vinyl graphics in your city and see what pops up. Also known as car wrapping. A good reasonable price would be in the range of $300.00-$500.00 And they usually last up to 5 years. Just let them know u want only the roof wrapped with high gloss black vinyl..

Good Luck.

Yeah I am also Subscribing, Love the Look for a black Roof on a car. Reminds me of the BMW with real Carbon Fiber Roofs. If anyone has Detailed Pics of a ASM Black/Carbon Fiber Vinyl please post

Thanks

Well here's the story:

So spend 2 hours last Saturday trying to get the vinyl on the roof. Trust me, even with assistance it still is not as easy as I had thought/hoped. So we got it on, but just couldn't get it to stop wrinkling and sticking to itself. Anyway, long story short I accomplished:

1) a horrible looking black vinyl roof wrap. I will try to post pics but wouldn't take any close ups because it's baaaaaaaaad
2) broke my XM antenna in the removal process and had to order another one
3) established that I will never be able to add professional graphics installation to my resume
And best of all....
4) due to a hail storm on Wednesday, have to remove the vinyl to have it repaired. Planned on leaving the vinyl on for a week or so to see if I really liked it or not. Let's just say that this is the SECOND time in SiX weeks my car has been hit with hail. First round was $4000 in repairs.... Curious to see what this one will run. Luckily my deductible is on $100! Anywho, after all this I am trying to figure out if it is worth doing again after the repairs as I would be spending $250ish to have it professionally installed. The joys of owning a car you actually love and are about!

Hey you can always paint the roof instead of vinyl, I did that to mine twice I didn't like the way it came out so I took it of. Now maybe sometime in the future I will just paint it instead.

Sorry that you had problems with your install, and about all the hail damage.....but at least you've shown that black roofs look good on CBPs!!Good luck getting it repaired, and like datboiRalph says, you can always get your roof painted.

I agree, very subtle. I like it!

I'm thinking that + a plasti-dip center grille could be in my future!

Good luck with the hail damage, I bet you could work a deal with the body shop to just paint the roof while it is in for repair and use the insurance $$ to pay for it.

Hey man What did u use to install it? I hope u used Soapy water and a Heat gun. Without that IDK how the hell you would be able to put it on. THe soapy water gives your a little play to maneuver the Vinyl without it getting stuck to each other and the heat gun lets u form the vinyl to fit the curves of the car. Car wrapping is a pain in the ass if you dont have the proper tools

Bumping this ancient thread. Used 5’x5’ of Vivid vinyl on my Anthracite roof for my first time wrapping. Vivid currently has the glossiest, blackest black. It is a subtle mod, but looks great.

Looks good, but seems odd to post in a 9yr old thread about a color of car you don't own.

Thanks.

I did not, I just flexed it and stuffed it under, but I recommend removing the drip trays.
