Custom headlight idea?

How do you guys think an LED bar would look in the TL-S headlight? I've always wanted a CLEAN looking LED bar not those LED strips from ebay. Just found out today that TRS will be releasing one sometime soon in the future. It would NOT show as dotted LEDs but instead of a clean strip like a CCFL. How would this look over the chrome strip in the headlight?(the one across the diffuser)

I was also thinking, maybe if they release an amber version like they did for their halos, it would look great wired as a turn signal. These strips should be comparable to the mercedes/bmw LED turn signals if not brighter. I've seen the output on these with their halos and its unarguably the brightest LED on the market.

I work on headlights as a side job and I've installed these halos on couple 370z's and this is how it looks:

and trust me these are BRIGHT, very visible in broad daylight too

It will definitely look unique! Is it the same size as the diffuser strip? and how about hiding the cable, front or end of headlight?

It looks like it would be very close in length, it would be GREAT if they could be cut to length but even if it couldnt, I think hiding any excess LEDs wouldnt be too hard behind the housing. I'd hide the wires on the front (inner) part of the headlight, where the chrome strip ends next to the projector, it looks like an easy place to hide the 2 power wires.

Of course with this idea in mind, it can open up a whole new set of ideas like painting over the clear diffuser since the chrome turn signal reflector will not be used anymore. Just a thought, I will wait for the product to be released and see how it is.

I just contacted TRS, and this is what they said:
"ETA is the last week in June. We will carry them in 3" 6" and 12" lengths, but those lengths are not to be modified. We will offer them in white, amber, and red, for tail light retrofitters out there!"

Nonetheless, i would try it. It looks cleaner and not your avg dotted LED in every other car.
Do you know how much they will go for?

I just saw those posted on TRS's Facebook page. I think it would be a good idea. I was going to go the angel eye route with my headlights, but didn't want to replace them everytime something happened with them. They do have good reviews, but I have heard of some others that went out a month after install.

Would you completely remove the chrome strip or attach the LED strip to the chrome? I'm just thinking of how the diffuser attaches to the headlight. You could possible buy three for each headlight and do an upper middle and lower layer and maybe make the sequetial?

Except with a solid line? It would look pretty sick IMO

their halos start at $55 per pair so I assume around there.

Definitely remove the chrome strip. The oem chrome strip already touches the headlight lens so I don't think it would fit on top of the chrome strip. The sequential turn signal is a good idea but that would definitely be a lot more work in terms of wiring....definitely something to look into though.

Yes just like that except with a solid line.

I took a measurement earlier, I know it's just an approximation but it's pretty close to 12"

I can get you an exact measurement tonight since I haven't sealed up my other headlight. I wish you would've posted this earlier. I would have been ordering those lol. It's a good idea.

paperboy I was thinking of doing the exact same thing im my lights but was unable to find a good source to purchase the ccfl strands. Again having it where it could act as the turn signal too would be amazing. Ill definately attempt this

I really like the idea of the strip across the diffuser. It shouldn't be hard to do, I would remove the chrome strip and replace it with the light strip. Is it a plastic strip with an led at one end? I work for Cadillac and they have been using plastic tubes in their headlights/ taillights and even flexible clear solid tube on the interiors with one bright led at the end to illuminate the tubes. I can't find out who makes them... one solid illuminated bar looks better than 15 individual LED's. Question about the halo's. Are they a plastic ring with one led bulb like the BMW's? The led halo rings everyone has been using look really cheap and cheezy. Gotta keep the TL classy!

no this is actually a bunch of small LEDs very close together plus with some kind of silicone layer over it so it looks like one clean line. same with the halos, you cant even tell its individual LEDs no matter how hard you look since they are so bright and so tight together. This is about as high quality of an LED as you will find for a headlight. I have personally worked on BMW's and I know what you mean by having a clear tube with 1 led at the end, but this is definitely not the same. The bmw method gives a 360 degrees of illumination but is FAR less bright

Assuming it's just like the morimoto angel eyes that means

1) these are cuttable
2) polarity independent
3) very bright

It would be amazing if someone did angel eyes and then made these "touch" the halo coming off the side and down that strip. Make it all look like one piece when on...

Like O----- know what I mean?

This mod will look awesome, without a doubt. No thanks on the Halo's, that's BMW. The clean solid white line definitely screams Acura. Likewise, LED's spaced out with a frosted lens is Mercedes.

Sub'd, g'luck and post a how-to!

what about white as running lights then off for turn signal.

as an example, right now I have the switchbacks - would it be possible to have the strip in the signal location as the constant on (running lights) then have it shut off when the turn signal is activated. I think this would require rewiring the turn signal too however.

Id say avoid the halos. Pretty rice in my opinion. LED strips aren't as bad if done right.

Possible but if you know the amount of work to recreate switchbacks you probably won't do it. Ppl had the same idea when doing the LEDs for sidemarkers. It's been done but 99% of ppl won't bother, it will have lots of stuff sticking out the back.
