Type S concerns?
Type S concerns?
Soo I've been looking to trade my sister's '10 Ex-L V6 Accord pretty much from day 1, I've been considering the new accord (too much of a wait for touring), a zdx (miss my old 1), and a few others but I finally came across a 07 WDP Type S with roughly 48k miles. Was wondering what are some common issues/concerns with the Type S. Also anything I should look for while checking out the car?
Thanks a lot for the help guys..
P.S. Love all your Type S's thanks to you guys I've been dying to find a Wdp Type S.

Haha I'm a 4G guy and I drool and get jealous seeing type s tl's.
Thanks man
There are no major issues with the type s. It is a very solid car and will be reliable if you can find one that was taken care of. If you get an auto it's a solid tranny, if you get a 6mt watch for 3rd gear issues. They all have the problem at some point and the fix is either dealer TSB or GM synchromesh fluid.
Check the carfax and autocheck, check to see if all VIN labels are present on each body panel and check for clear coat texture for OEM consistency to make sure it's original paint. One owner is always optimal, but for an exceptional car I would go more.

Thanks man. She works far and I go to school which is 20-30 miles away. And I'd be driving this car to the auctions and pretty much everywhere possible.. & would mod it as much as possible lol seeing everyone's thread makes me drool too much!
Damn right we do, Type Sex Envy!
I promise...you drive the Type S one time and you won't let your sister have the Type S again.

Another common problem is the compliance bushings going out which results in slight vibration at highway speeds. I know you mentioned getting an auto but beware of the old 3rd gear synchro grind if you go manual. The good thing is with 70K or less miles you will still be in warranty.
Here are the issues that I have seen most on this site:
1. Some automatic transmission issues on 04-06 cars. Maintenance with regular (3x3) ATF changes and 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches help prevent problems. 07 and 08 S-types got the stronger 3-shaft RL tranny which has proven more reliable, but even on this newer transmission, most guys are still recommending good maintenance.
2. Engine mounts. These have been known to fail over time, and I've heard recommendations to replace all three when one goes.
3. Power steering hose--this is a recall, and easily fixed. I've also heard of some rack problems, but these seem more rare.
4. Interior details: lights, premature wear on some finish surfaces.
5. Needs premium gas, and the mileage around town is just so-so.
Everything is relative. Remember this is a Honda product, so it is very well designed and made. Compared to a Nissan, BMW, or most American cars, it's vastly superior in reliability in my experience.
Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Lol all good.
No major issues. Only thing I know of is the steering hose recall.
I actually am lucky enough to know a guy who actually worked on the assembly line that built the TLs in Marysville and the moved on to Q/A. He said there's no major issues with the 07-08 TLs. He DID say that the 09-11 TL's were thrown together until the 12's came along (cut corners to reduce production costs due to the state of the economy).
You can take it or leave it, but at least I have comfort knowing that my 07 was built well... (and regret that my 10 is kinda sloppily put together). haha

I'm sure this has been discussed, but for the sake of this guys thread, maybe a quick answer would be sufficient. Thanks!
I bought it brand new, great car, wonderful in every aspect; and I do not have any rattles. Knock on wood!
I had a bubble in my paint, and defective tail light[it melted] all of which was replaced by warranty for free.

I'm sort of shocked noone's mentioned anything about the Brake Rotors warping? I was pretty sure that was a common Acura brake issue.
My brake rotors warped twice with the stock rotors. Grinded it down the first time, and then switched to the full set from BrakeMotive.
