Trouble Starting

Hey All,

My 2007 TL with 275k miles on it is having trouble starting.

Has been starting fine but it all of the sudden didn't start. I turn the key on and I have das lights, radio and nav all working. I tried it 7 or so times and than the last time it starts up no problem.

I drove it home (about a mile) and turn it off and try to start it again and nothing. It started just fine the 2nd time.

It started just fine when i started it every hour for the next 3 hours.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also this is the firsy time I let the gas go below a quarter in years.

Thanks for the help

Check all your battery cables and terminals, especially the ground cable(s).

I checked all those and all good.

It has started up just fine today but I have only drove it 3 or so miles.

The battery is pretty old so I am going to replace that and hopefully works well.

Thanks for the advice.

Double check the starter ground. It can look connected when it isn't.

The battery cables have been known to internally corrode without showing any signs of such - other than starting problems. Run your hands along the cables squeezing them to see if they collapse or stay rigid.

I forgot to mention that I was at 110k miles or so when I had this issue (approx 2-3 years ago). Our TL isn’t used for long drives though, so I suspect years and engine start counts is far more of a factor than mileage.

Believe that makes sense.

sounds like the starter or starter relay may be on it's way out
