You got to add 1.3% because of the tire size difference from stock to my aspecs. So 131-132 on the speedo is more like 133-134 actual speed. Don't know what all of you guys have on, but if the diameter of your wheels is different from stock then actual speed(well as measured by Acura anyway) is going to be off.

Could be coincidence but:
(Torque x Engine Speed) / 5252 (RPM) = Horsepower
Tq and Hp will always intersect at 5252 on a dyno chart.

So maybe 134mph in 4th gear is 5250 RPM.

The car should have enough power, Acura was too lazy to change the speed governor or they think that going at any higher speeds could easily damage the engine/tranny

What's odd is that is does not appear to act like a fuel cutoff.
In TL4play's video's when he hits the top speed limiter, the car actually stops supplying fuel for a second and then re-engages when the speed drops back from the max. That was true in his 6th gear also, even though he was only running ~5,500 rpm.
What that video looks like is that the car is running very smoothly, with no ECU/ECM interference, at 130 MPH. Maybe it's in the vid and I just missed it. How did it feel jokerunm?
How do the other trim/year Auto's feel/act when they hit the speed limiter? Is a smooth, the car won't go any faster feeling or a jerky, the car just cut off the gas feeling?

With AUTO TLS, no such behavior.......it's just limiting the RPM......somehow....again RPM keeps moving until 5250 then just stops.....so it's limiting the output of the engine so it can't pull anymore.......a governor without fuel cutoff?
Why the limit on the RL?....the RL comes stock with V-rated tires...so it should be good to 149.

Chances are something to do with the AWD... Thats my guess.

We certainly need to find an issue. A Subaru STI I ran into tonight on my way home was further evidence of the need for more speed. But to end things on a happy note at least we were neck and neck up until that 134mph point. He was pulling on my slightly though. But I am still stock so

Its a forum dedicated to Honda ECU's and cracking them. Just found the forum so hopefully something can be found out there.

Seriously though, I'm pissed too knowing that my car is limited at ~130 and the base TL isn't. I'll probably take it up to there no more than five times in the three years I'll have the car, but when I do I'd like to take the car to its full potential and not have it cut off.

No that is NOT a flame or an arguement, etc. You have an excellent theory (TL/RL) and are building/have built a solid experimental base to support that theory. The last thing to put this to bed once and for all, to prove the theory beyond all doubt, is to "hack" the ECU and see what the limiter is actually set at.)

Looks like my only solution will be putting myself into a different car. I found a 07 G35 with 12k miles on it journey, navi, and sport and think I might be able to get an even trade for it so my payments stay the same. Hmmmmmm damn you lazy acura engineers.

Would a stand alone engine management system work? If so would all instruments in the clusters still work also? So many more questions if that is an option. But I imagine a very expensive one too so it may not be worth it.

here is what my solution is, wire an 06 tl ecu... if your car is auto the only thing you will be losing is the paddle shifters and the slightly more aggresive shifts...
the tune is a bit different and should still function accordingly but I'd do a piggyback to go with it just to be safe

By all reports I've seen/read, the TL/TL-S is electronically limited around 150 - 155.[/QUOTE]
i can vouch for that statement i got mine up to 150 and there was more to go

I'm planning to get a brand new '08 G35 Sport Sedan 6MT too. Whup'in some @$$.... It's not only about high speed but having better accelerations. I have absolutely no problem with my '06 6MT TL other than the 3rd gear problem and poor build quality, fit and finish. Handling is good. Engine sound is great, great power. But it's time to move on to something serious.
HEY don5504 are you planning to get the AUTO or 6MT? c'mon...c'mon man 6MT!! Forget your wife. 6MT IS THE PRIORITY!!!!!! A MAXIMUM LOL!!!

To the guy about the 06 ecu that may or may not work. I'll look into it when I have some time. But its been discussed that the 07 uses a modified rl transmission and ecu. But I was interested in seeing if the base 07-08 tl were also limited in the same fashion. If not that may be a solution iirc it also uses a modified version of the rl transmission which was new for the 07-08 model years. I may be mistaken though.
And to manual transmission about the 6mt.....HA I just may.

FWIW - the articles I was refering to were R&T or C&D tests and all of those (AFAIK) were either MT or pre-'07.
From everything posted here, all the MT and pre-'07 had the limiter set at ~150. Consistent with the published information.
Also, based on posts here, ONLY the 2007 & 2008 TL-S 5AT are limited at ~135.
What is the word on 2007/2008 NON Type-S top speed?
( I am still in denial :wtf: )

Honestly I am probably just going to keep the car because it is the most sound financial decision. My sensibility is over riding the passion inside of me. But don't think for a min that I have forgotten about this or will not continue to search for a solution.
