Too Much Oil?

I bought my TL Type-S a few weeks ago. I checked the oil today for the first time today, and saw the oil level was above the top line.

I know... I should have checked the oil the day I brought it home... pretty stupid.

I've seen a few threads on the forum where people say this isnt a big deal, but I'm a bit worried about it. I want to know what you guys/girls think.

The picture looks slightly worse than what it really is, as the oil spread a bit when I laid the dipstick down. Its 2-3 mm above the line when i pull it out of the engine.

you're OK. It will vary depending on when the car was last started/driven. If it has been sitting it should be high or maybe just a little higher than the high mark.

Oil looks a little dirty too. I would simply get your oil changed and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the feedback.

I ran out and bought some RP to do the oil change. I'm not sure I want to spend the $ to put RP in this car. I love the oil... I dont love the price.

Oil level is fine and oil looks clean. I wouldn't touch it. I've run mine higher than that for 100,000 miles and it's fine. The dipstick is only a rough indicator. The oil sloshes around in the pan, changes levels as you accelerate, brake, and corner. It has a wide range that it can run in and 1/4" high on a dipstick will make no difference. Move the car to a different area and recheck and it will read different even if the ground looks level.

oil looks fine to me, not sure why the member above says it's dirty. Of course it won't look like when you first get it, but it's fine.

What's to love about the price of Royal Purple oil? As good as it is, it's still overpriced as are their oil filters. There's millions of threads on here about motor oil with all these clowns siting all kinds of tests declaring some brands when poured on your dick will enable you to stay hard longer. You'd be fine with just about any synthetic.

I use NAPA's own brand 5W-20 at just over $5 a quart which is Valvoline SynPower and their Gold filters which are WIX. From my 7 years experience, the WIX filters seem to keep the oil clean longer than any other brand I've tried including K&N. No need to spend $14 for an oil filter either.

There isnt much to love about the price of Royal Purple oil or filter. To be fair, I dont buy RP filters. The reason I bought RP in the first place was its a "known entity" to me. I put it in my previous car, g35, and it was great. The engine was butter smooth with RP - you could feel the difference.

Good to know about the WIX filter. I've used Mobile 1 filters in the past - but never really branched out.

I'm not going to get into it any more than this one post because I've already written too much on this subject. RP filters are the best over the counter filter you can buy. They're the only one that has a synthetic media (Amsoil EAO also but they're not sold in stores) that will give excellent flow along with the best filtration. I don't care for RP oil, I don't like what I've seen in teardowns after running RP but their filters are great. RP is more than enough to protect a TL and you'll have many trouble free miles on any oil you choose whether it's a $2 dino or a $10 synthetic. If you're going to pay that kind of money though, let me suggest Redline due to it's ester base oil, ZDDP level, and moly levels.
