Let me start out by saying that I think the united states needs to make it harder for anyone to obtain a drivers license.. I've had so many freakin close calls lately, it isn't even funny... I live in Fort Worth, Texas where most of the drivers suck.. (I'm sure anyone from the area will agree)...

I'm traveling down interstate 20 in the fast lane going about 65 mph... There was light traffic at this time.. I notice about 100 yards ahead that some people in the right lane were braking, so I began to do the same... A lady in a white kia who was in the slow lane didn't see the cars infront of her slowing down and is forced to slam on her brakes.. It was obvious she wasn't going to stop in time so what does she do? Does she turn into the brake down lane to avoid the collision? Nope she turns right infront of me... I slammed on the brake.. I don't know how many of you have tried slamming on the brake at 60 mph, but it isn't any fun... All four wheels locked up then the ABS kicked in... The car swerved a little bit but was quickly brought under control by the VSA... The car came to a stop very quickly and luckily no one was behind me... I came to rest about 1 foot away from her bumper... Then she just took off... I was so damn irrate by this point, and my fiance was in shock... I finally catch up to the bitch and what is she doing? Talking on her cell phone... This pissed me off even more... She signaled to exit at the next exit.. I followed her.. Luckily the light off the exit was red... I pulled up next to her... Still on her cell phone, not giving half of a shit about what is going around her, I beep the horn... She looks over at me and looks at me like "what?".. I smiled and asked her to roll her window down...

Stupid Bitch "Hey whats up?"
Me "Whats up?? Did you happen to notice the serious accident on the highway you almost caused?"
Stupid Bitch "Yah, sorry about that I was on my cell phone"

The light turned green and she took off....

Welcome to Northern Virginia where encounters like this are becoming more and more common place. I dont even get pissed anymore when that stuff happens.

I do know one thing; one of these days my body isn't going to react to something like that and I'm going to plow right into one of those SOB's.

 

I have accounts like that daily in Dallas.

 

They probably moved there from here...now if only the rest of them would move somewhere! Glad you're alright.

 

Don't even get me started about New Jersey drivers...

Wow! I hear ya, I'm in Austin and I hate drivers (especially in SUVs here) on cell phones. Glad you and yours were not hurt. Some people don't have a clue. I'm waiting for handheld cell phone use by drivers to be outlawed in Texas.

 

RedSoxGuy, I feel your pain. I was driving north on the Dallas Tollway last week when an idiot (who by the way was on his cell phone) swerved right into my lane and nearly sideswiped me. Luckily the right lane was free and I managed to avoid him. Texas lawmakers really need to do something about people driving while talking on the phone (without proper use of a headset, earpiece, or some other handsfree method)... Glad you weren't involved in a wreck, and hope things get better there in Cattletown

 

I grew up as an army brat so I moved all over the country.. I lived in Jersey when my father was stationed at Ft. Dix... The biggest memory I have of living there was my father while he was driving... I never in my life (to this day) remember hearing my father swear as bad as he did when we would drive in Jersey... So I can only imagine what it must be like today...

 

You're in Texas... You should have your shotgun ready to shoot drivers like this.. :P

 

Sounds almost like my incident about a month ago at 11PM with light traffic as well. The dumbass that merged into my lane had a lane all to himself with no cars in front of him. Instead, he decides to merge into my lane where he saw me flying up. After laying on the horn, my car did the same thing as yours, but I didn't confront the mofo. People have gotten shot by the people that have caused the incidents before so I didn't want to be a statistic.

 

Yah I've been waiting for someone to come out with an aftermarket gun rack for the TL... hehe

 

Interesting how driving with a cell phone is considered by some people to be a justified reason for poor driving. (I was on my cell phone, and that's the reason I almost killed you, so you really shouldn't have any problem with it.... Have a nice day!)

 

Very scary, but on the other hand some people are able to talk and drive very competantly... it's one of those "blanket" laws.... but it's still neccesary as there are always the people who can't do two things at once.

 

This guy was about to cut me off in a merge lane getting on to the highway, i had to slam on my breaks, so i speed up and pass him. i'm on the highway and his pos finally catches up to me and he starts flicking me off and shit, i can literally feel a blood vessle in my neck about to burst i roll down the window and i start screaming at this guy on the highway like i'm on the set of mad max or something. the little mexican bastard starts tailing me like he's gonna follow me off the exit. like i'm worried. i'm just thinking you better have a fucking gun if you follow me off this exit or i'm gonna rip your head off and shove it up your girlfriends ass over there. he just kept going. fuckers.

 

If you find one, can you inquire to the supplier about a missile launcher option for the 3rd Gen TL, I want one bad!

 

This is just a normal occurance these days all over North America.

For some people, talking on the phone is distracting enough and if you add to the equation driving a car down the road at the same time, this spell disaster.

The use of a Hands-Free system does not help much in these circumstances as some recent studies have concluded.

We have to drive more defensively then ever to avoid accidents with people talking on the cell phone or munching down on a BigMac, reading the newspaper or a book while driving, shaving during the morning drive to work or putting on make-up like some ladies does on the highways in my area.

Imagine how scary that can be, a lady putting on make-up while driving and talking on the phone

Phoenix is the same way, nobody pays attention and pulls out in front of you all of the time. You have to really be on your toes.............especially when it is raining. I am orginally from WV and have never seen driving like i do out here when little drops come falling from the sky...........everyone panics out here.

hands free is absolutely silly as far as safety... if you think about it... it's no different at all. especialy in an automatic; you can be looking at the road, driving with one hand... the only difference is you can have two hands on the wheel with hands free... but this does not help your attention span, which is the problem with phones in the car. wether or not you are holding a phone has nothing to do with your attention.

 

I see it all the time here...mostly women in huge SUVs. They like to pull out onto the road ahead of me so I have to slam on my brakes. I feel like I want to explode but what can I do?!!

Try the same scenario on a motorcycle. You will really start to hate cell phones.

 

LOL you guys are nuts claiming a car saved your ass... I guess it is true.. nobody has any driving ability anymore... and they all say it is the car... If you drive a huge suv you are safe. If you have certain features you are safe. Sure in some cases. but there is no substitute for knowing how to drive a car in various conditions. Also knowing the limits of the car, brakes, tires, surfaces, etc.

 

I drive the 495 Beltway around DC EVERYDAY.... these things are a common occurenceday after day after day.... But there is a solution... If you are driving FASTER than everyone else on the road, there wont be anyone behind you when you have to break hard for idiots.. lol

Sounds like the rest of the States are finally catching up with
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA in regards to imcompetent drivers.

You really want to live on the edge, come to Cali and try driving around when its been raining. That is an Extreme sport in itself.

damm good thing you had fast reflex to brake and save yourself and your fiance. If i was alone i would have gotten infront of her and gave her a brake check to see if her brakes were just as good.

 

I Know what you mean guys but having a HFL will not really gonna help a lot cuz most people when they are talkin on the phone they are losing they concentration on driving... THATS WHAT I FIGURE!!

 

I agree with everyone here.

I have to drive into connecticut everyday for work and I must say that they are the worst drivers in America. They just passed the hands free cell phone law there but no one cares. They just keep on doing it. What good is the law if law enforcement doesn't care to enforce it.

I have many "close calls" on my way to and from work. The morons just don't care that they are either holding up traffic on the passing lane or they almost just took out like 5 cars.

I usually just flip them the bird as I pass them. What else can you do. Sometimes I really wish I was a cop. I would bring in so much revenue for Connecticut. Damn rich folk there get away with murder.
