Talking TL Performance, one data point

I decided to gather some performance data using my Passport G-Timer GT2 last night.

The 04TL has 680 miles, the outdoor temp was 59 degrees F, the road was dry, and the relative humidly was about 40%. VSA was off, A/C was off, transmission in automatic mode. No traffic.

I made two 1/4 mile runs in opposite directions:

#1 1/4 mile: 14.75 @ 95.5
0-60: 6.27

#2 1/4 mile: 14.75 @ 96.3
0-60: 6.30

(Yes, the times were the same!)

#3 I ran one more 0-60.
0-60: 6.15

-r

PS - for reference my 01 CL-S with 46k miles had these results:

1/4 mile: 14.57 @ 96.7
0-60: 6.07

I think the TL will better that when it has more miles on it.

Power braking. I'll have to experiment a bit to find out what works best. On #3 I actually used less throttle before releasing the brake and flooring it, which led to a bit more wheel spin, and the faster 0-60. I'll repeat the test around 1400 miles.

An interesting observation. With the CL-S, the tires would actually chirp on the 1-2 shift. With the 04TL even under WOT the shifts are very smooth.

I'm curious. Some people have suggested that VSA should be turned off for best times. Did you?

I'm somewhat new to this.......what's power braking? And how does it help/hurt 0-60 times?

Power braking or torque braking is simply applying the brake with your left foot and pressing the throttle with your right to rev the engine then pulling off the brake. It produces better times because the engine is at a higher RPM when your launch. This technique can shave several tenths off the 0-60 times of autos and is how the magazines typically achieve their numbers.

Those are very respectable numbers for a 3500 lb 4-door
I can't wait to see the numbers for the 6mt, they should be faster
by several tenths at least !!! :worship:

Nice numbers... judging by your ET and trap speed... seems like the new TL is no faster or slower than the TypeS .. Congrats.

0-60 mph results

Thank goodness someone did a test on the 2004 Acura TL automatic transmission!

I have searched high and low for this and have found a good listing at: http://www.modernracer.com/acuratl.html

...but I wasn't sure how accurate this was. Your results are in line with the modernracer.com but none of the more respectable websites (i.e., motortrend, car and driver etc.) have the official results. I even went and test drove both auto and manual and the dealership didn't even have any official 0-60 mph times.

Now, does anyone have any manual times? I like the fact that one guy had tested the '04 TL 3 times and 6.3sec looks around average from what I've found so far.
