headlight beam pattern

at nite, when up against a wall or bumper of a car.. does anyone else have ridges in the top of the headlight beam ?? or do you get a nice flat edge/line.

I have 3 notches in it, that all go down in a stairstep pattern. They seem to be where the shutter is for the highbeams. But I swear the first week I had a perfect light spray.

Anyone ??

thanks.. i feel a bit better .. i think it's only 2 or 3 steps total, but when up against a rear of a car, it's not smooth.. and dare I say looks.. kinda inferior to someone else looking at it from another car, not a straight line.. but oh well.. they are so nice to have.

I definately have this problem. The beam steps down to the driver side which doesn't give the driver very much light toward the center of the street. This really bothers me.

the ridge is to prevent shining ?? I don't get it. I would have thought they could have defined a clear arc of light out of whatever they used as a shutter or iris between the lows and the highs, but oh well. Would just like it to be a flat line, just persnickity.

why am I still awake.. gnite y'all 5:15 is gunna hurt in the morning.

The high side on the passenger side is to illuminate road side signage. The low side on the drivers side is to avoid glare for oncoming traffic.

This has been the european way for many (over 20) years, too bad America uses OVERHEAD roadway signs on interstates vs European signs on the side of the road (US is afraid we will crash into them).

Unfortunately ALL car manufacturers forget this, even some of the American ones have this design!
