TL Has an Appendix??? Pix Included

I pulled the intake resonator assembly off my '06 TL today and was surprised to see something that seemingly has no purpose. It appears to possibly duct air from the engine compartment proper to the "chamber" where the resonator assembly largely resides.

I have taken the liberty of christening this the TL's "appendix". I have no doubt that someone on this board knows what it really is for. Feel free to enlighten us.

Steve

Don't see how it could be as it's behind the wheel well lining.

As Dr Glow would put it....

These (the part in question) are highly specialized structures which are a part of the immune system (intake system). The clue to the appendix’s function is found in its strategic position right where the small bowel (tube) meets the large bowel (tube) or colon (air box). The colon (air box) is loaded with bacteria (dirt) which are useful there, but which must be kept away from other areas such as the small bowel (tube) and the bloodstream (gas).

If you guys don't understand - don't worry. It took me 8 years to learn all that fancy lingo

I'm not quite that anal. Instead I used the reclaimed space to house a transverse phase modulator (precursor to Doc Brown's Flux Capacitor). The TPM sequentially shifts each molecule of the car and it's contents 180 degrees out of phase with the earth's gravity waves.

Actually, that's not 100% true. My first configuration did that, effectively causing the car to have zero mass. Upon application of throttle the car instantly accelerated to near light speed. While that might sound like a wonderful thing, I was actually backing out of the driveway and barely stopped the car in time to avoid the local fire hydrant.

So, I had to detune the TPM to actually retain some weight. Some brief experimentation and I settled on a 75% weight reduction, which seems to be a sweet spot. The up side is I get to retain my subwoofer, trunk lining, CD collection, etc.

Oh, forgot about power. The TPM is actually powered by the output of an HOH (Brown's gas) generator. Brown's gas doesn't do much fed into your car's intake, but I have found it useful for powering the TPM.

I hope to have TPM kits available as soon as the technology is declassified by DHS, NSA, FBI, CIA and Martha Stewart.

It's part of what I call the factory semi-cold air intake. It gets outside air into the general area of the air intake so there's cool air entering but if you go through a big puddle, the water won't enter the engine.

Vaporized diet Sprite (aka Sprite Zero) has a volumetric expansion 2.5 times that of normal air. Therefore induction of Sprite Zero into a NA engine will inhibit the formation of carbon deposits in the cylinder virtually guaranteeing that diamonds will not form in the combustion chamber.* US patent applied for.

Besides, the empty can was handy to prop up the "appendix".

*Try this at your own peril.

HAHA very nice.....Interesting how you made the intake analogous to the GIT...I for one always thought of it as the respiratory system....I think of the engine the heart...The exhaust the GIT haha, The oil filter is the liver I guess....I know not all this fits...I am a weirdo.

The air filter the lung......all those tubes the concha maybe lol. That appendix part? Hmm maybe a vestigal nasal sinus?

But really what is that stupid transverse tube for?? It connects to nothing. I bet you it is there purely for acoustic properties. And ya I noticed that big metal block too Black.....no ideas! I wonder if Inaccurate has removed it, that's 2lbs. right there!
