TL changes are they Coming? (final Copy)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL Changes coming sooner?

With all the pressure building up on the 3G TL from the new IS & Passat Iam pretty sure that 07 TL will have extensive changes including New front and rear grill as seen in the 05 SEMA Pics, won’t be surprised if a S type is introduced, and then in 08-09 the 4G TL, by the way sooner TL goes AWD the better Iam sure its in the pipeline too.

Again a poll to see what the TL community want TL to have

1. More aggressive front grill
2. Key Remote
3. Side view mirrors with indicators
4. MP3 and Hard drive reading capability
5. Rear View Camera
6. Better Paint and Tire quality
7. Less Rattles
8. 300+ HP
9. SH AWD
10. Optional Hybrid may be 3K more.

AUX input for stereo
Brighter or controllable button backlighting
More volume on stereo
Heated steering wheel
Window Auto-up on ARM

1. I think the grill is perfect with the exception of lower fogs
2. Integrate everything into the remote please
3. I think they are ugly, though no doubt useful
4. MP3 definatly, hard drive, possibly. Right now I am just hoping the IPOD integration will work on an 05
5. Option for the RL this year, only 400, cheaper than back up sensors, wouldnt be surprised to see it on the TL soon
6. Tire upgrade option, paint is pretty good, but an upgrade wouldn't hurt
7. I only have one or two in the cold, but no doubt
8. Supercharge it and give it SH-AWD, SH-AWD expected on the next model up, obviously with more power
9. See Above
10. Hybrids are for pussies, you add way to much weight, the eventual replacement of the Litium Ion pack costs waaaaay too much, more to go wrong, fuel economy never actually balances out the price difference, Screw the environment, its already ULEV!!!!

What I would like to see:
1. RWS on future models as an option
2. Auto Leveling headlights, possibly adaptive
3. BLUE backlighting on the interior
4. Better Voice Control
5. More adjustments for passenger
6. DSG
7. MORE LEATHER LESS VINYL

2. Key Remote: An integrated remote should already have been standard as the Accord has it.

3. Side view mirrors with indicators: The designer and management that allowed the non-blinking side indicators should have been fired (and other cruel punishments). This is inexcusable.

4. MP3 and Hard drive reading capability. DVD-A is great, but MP3 is main stream.

9. SH AWD: My preference over RWD.

10. Optional Hybrid may be 3K more: Yes, but no more than 2K

Other items that MUST be changed.

1. Title and song display for DVD-A.
2. Upgraded Navi like all other Honda offerings.
3. Full auto on/off headlights
4. One touch lane change indicator (one touch and release results in 3-4 blinks)
5. Replace the old 1950's hand brake with a small electronic lever
6. One touch up/down for rear windows

I think just about everyone would like SH-AWD. Since Acura just doesn't seem to like RWD, the AWD would be a nice step in the right direction. The RL has AWD and that would be a nice thing to bring down to the TL, especially since the most common buyer of the TL is the middle upper class commuter who probably needs to get through some crap to work here and there. It would also just be a nice plus for performance enthusiasts.

I WOULD TRADE UP FOR SH-AWD. End of story. That's the ONLY change I care about. All the other stuff I could care less about. OK, I could use an iPod connector too.

Everyone would trade up for SH-AWD as long as they gave us more power. Supercharge it and your set , I could get my father to pay 4k more for SH-AWD and more power without second thought, thats what I am chasing so I get the car. He absolutely loves it, so I am hoping he will get the 08 or 09 and give me this for a graduation gift.

But wont the tray look ugly, and are you saying that the passenger will use it?.

Also in Addition To All of the Above:

- The upgraded Nav system in the RL with Real-Time Traffic, more than twice as many voice commands, and Zagat.

- The Trip Computer system part of the Accord's Navi with more trip info and an Instantaneous MPG indicator.

- The stereo should automatically see and play MP3's, display info for ANY CD or FM station (like all the GM's, Fords, & Chry's do), and have an optional automatic volume adjustment for different speeds like the Beamers.

- The '06 RL's optional automatic cruise control

Motortrend.com, in their "2008 Future Vehicles" section says that the 08 TL will be completely redesigned with AWD availability. Doesn't say whether its optional or standard. I guess it's too early to go into any other specifics than that. I would be up for many of the changes listed in this post as long as they didn't add too much money to the bottom line.

Seeing as Acura doesnt like to screw around with thousands of options I assume something as big as AWD will be standard.

My guess is the TL is going to get a lot of this models RL technology, and the RL is going to graduate into the relms of something new yet again.

Acura should definitely provide AWD and close to 300 hp version. I would prefer two door - awd - 300 hp version.
Cd player must play mp3 format, tires should go to the better quality level.

2 door would likely be the new CL. They should supercharge and add AWD though. Is there any reason acura doesnt use forced induction? Saab does and they get great milage.

It's not in the printed mag. You can only access it via their web site at www.motortrend.com and follow the banner link. If you are a subscriber you don't have to endure the advertising video they play before getting the info.

Regarding number five, Acura will have to keep the manual emergency brake. I would not want to bet my life on being able to stop the car if everything shuts down.

And I would like to add:

1) Title and song display for both CD's (retail, mp3, wma, and CD-A formats) and DVD-A's.

2) XM song & artist summary by channels or category. This would allow you to quickly preview what is playing and select the channel with the song of your choice. There are many XM channels. I spend more time trying to find a song that I want to listen to than listening to the song.

3) Trip computer on the Navi Screen. Also, remove the need to press the select button on MID when Trip Computer is selected. Each time you start the car you have to press the select button on MID when you previously had the Trip Computer already selected.

4) Real-time traffic for the TL Navi.

5) Choice of Sirius or XM radio like the Infiniti G35.

6) Electronic rear seat heaters.

7) A real security system. Rolling codes, key-fob lock-out if more than say 10 attempts to unlock (someone trying to crack the code). Enable remote key-fob once key is placed in ignition and car is started.

8) Improve the Navi to remove lag on positioning of the car.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67046

9) More supported phone models with Bluetooth.

10) A glove box that can hold more than just a pair of gloves. Heck, the owner's manual binder (to hold all the various manuals) does not fit without me shoe horning the binder into the glove box. The glove box needs to be deeper and taller.

11) Keep the lock windows switch illuminated when it is in the locked. When you have the power windows locked, the passenger and rear control do not illuminate when running lights or headlights are on. When unlocked, the controllers illuminate. Oddly enough, neither does the control to unlock these windows.

12) Outside temp on upper display instead of MID.

13) Option to change remote lock with audible beep on first press of the lock button on the key fob versus have to press twice to hear the beep.

14) Console & Glove Box Lights that have switches to turn-on whenever you open the compartments. Those lights are not controlled by a separate switches and stays on whenever the head/parking lights are on. It seems that Acura saved a few pennies by not adding switches to these circuits.

15) Better materials and design to prevent rattles.

Things I'd like changed

I would love MUCH better gas mileage - it isn't just about reducing our dependence on countries that are too volitile but less trips to the gas station for me, less time wasted, less concern about rising gas prices, possibly getting to use the HOV lane... I'm sure there are people who would like HP though so two engine models might make us both happy - one for those who want 300+ and those of us 255 but 10 more MPG (than the current model) would be great.

It would be great if they worked on the sound insulation - it is supposed to be somewhat of a luxury vehicle - when I'm on the phone it should sound like I'm mowing the lawn.

The new alpine GPS that can have voice activated street addresses without being in your personal addresses would be great!

It would be fantastic if I could transfer all my existing contacts from my WM5 device via bluetooth.

More leg room in the back seat would be great - I'd rather be able to put squarer (taller) boxes in the trunk than super deep items. If all I cared about was cargo capacity, I'd get a pickup and forget about the backseat. Why do they assume anyone going into the backseat is going to be 10 years old or less - some of us actually want to carpool with adults or share rides with our grown up friends.

The ability to read mp3s would be nice as well.

I'd like a bigger glove compartment too.

Outside temp on the NAVI - inside temp on the dash.

When last did that happen to you or anyone else? It's a serious question, not just being cynical. Between the wife and myself we have owned 20 cars over many years and hundreds or thousands of mile and never had everything shut down while driving.

The rest of your list is generally reasonable, except maybe for #11. This is a personal choice. As cars get more computer controlled, many of these items should be customizable, just like the typical program settings. Those that want to play can, those that don't want to just drive as is.

Oh a couple more items -

Better insulation for the sunglass holder - I don't like putting them on my face if I'm parked in Nevada - TOO dang hot - in a place I need them the most!

I agree about the indicators on the side mirrors - I would like that on all cars - safer and old people might notice they've been signaling for a left since they left home if you could see some of the flashing in the side mirrors.

Dual jacks in the center storage area - one for my phone and BT headset or one for my phone and one for hers.

While I agree, that brake failure should be very rare. I like having the manual, cable driven emergency brake allowing me to apply the amount of braking than your proposed electronic brake. As I see it, your proposal would have to be configure as full on causing the wheels to lock, which is bad when you are trying to maintain control of the vehicle in an already tough situation.

I agree my example of "everything shut down" was extreme. It was to make the point of it's good to have the manual emergency brake.

Also, it is a DOT regulation.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...1to139.htm#135

Regarding number 11, lock windows switch illuminated when it is in the locked, I am referring to the button that controls locking the other windows. When I am driving at night and need to unlock the other windows, I have to feel for the button since it is not illuminated.

^Dude, thats going out on a limb as to why you need it to be illuminated. Its right above the illuminated driver side window button, and who actually looks down there while driving?

Why does acura lock your controls too?

Audis have an electronic parking break and that has absolutly no appeal to me, say you hypothetically did loose power... Though it may be like the airbag module, with a built in capacitor so it could operate for a limited time. Do those instantly lock up the wheels, or apply somewhat gradually?

I would like to see all our green lights be blue

Your right, in fact why illuminate any of the controls so you can quickly see which control to use when driving at night.

I wish Acura would allow owners to set the default screen to be displayed at startup of the car. For example, if you wanted your display screen to automatically show the audio screen when you start the car.

Interesting note

hey guys can anyone actually say that the Acura guys have ever made a single change from a demand coming out of this forum, do they even read our views, or they just go by thier own surveys, I mean we can write all we want but is it going to induce even 1 change??, though it might build some public opinion affecting their survey?? even that is a long shot???.

I wouldn't take the SEMA TL as evidence of anything considering that same TL has been on the show circuit for 2+ years.

Similarly, the CL always had some nice cars on the SEMA circuit but never inherited a single trait in production.

yeah. they read, they comment, and they append.

look at the 3G TL... nearly every little detail is something SUGGESTED or done DIY here on the 2G TL/CL.

fine example is the two little blue LEDs up by the Homelink... that's an original DIY Modification posted here by Shawn S.

The list goes on, but yeah, we're their primary focus group.

I'd like the option of getting cloth seats - cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I asked 4 dealerships if Acura was going to ever consider it when I bought my 01. All of them said something like we get a LOT of requests for it so Acura might want to consider it. Acura would only consider it if Acura ever had a poll on their web site such as this. Too bad they don't.

Changes to the TL

You guys have a pretty long wish list. Are you sure you will be able to afford the car if all these changes were granted? My one big complaint is the handsfree phone system....why do I need to keep a seperate phone book in the car? Why can't it use my phones phonebook just like my bluetooth headset does? As for the cloth seats, ahh go get a set of sheep skin covers, the colors match the TL interior very well.

Here is my list of changes that I would like to see:

1) Smart Key Fob. The one we have is a joke and ugly.
2) Introduce a Type S w/over 300hp AWD & more Torque.
3) Fold Down Rear Seats

For the 4th GEN I hope everything I mentioned above plus shorten the length of the TL about 3-5inches so this way the handling will improve by a huge margin. That is why the BMW is one if not the top sport sedan in handling with 179inches compare to our 189inches long.

As for the cloth seats, ahh go get a set of sheep skin covers, the colors match the TL interior very well.
Probably AWD will be a 2-3K option like S type was, and the other changes at the factory level should not be more than 1K, and i think people will step up and pay for those changes.
