Tire for Drive to Florida Question

I hope someone on here can help with a tire question. I live in the land of ice and snow and will be travelling to Florida from Ontario in February 04. Get to stretch the legs on the new 04 Silver Navi 5AT TL

The question is do I leave on the Blizzak LM 22's for the trip or swap the for EL 42's? I dont think a few miles in the warm weather will toast the LM 22's but Id rather not find out the hard way...any ideas? I dont think it will be all that warm until were almost in Florida will it?

Appreciate any help on this guys...

as long as you are traveling on the interstates, I would definitely use the all season el42s . . . the snow tires won't help you much here in florida. .

IMO, you may hate the noise/control/handling/weirdness from your winter tires while driving in plain and warm interstate highway in the South. But if you insist, tires will not hurt anything in your TL.

Mitch...I know the snows wont help me in Florida I think there will be snow in at least Michigan, Ohio or Kentucky. Tennessee and Georgia will be cool too maybe mid 40's or 5 celcius. Id hate to run into snow with all seasons when I have good snows.

rets...actually the LM 22's are almost as good in dry as the el 42's from my experience, very quiet with good handling too. I was just wondering how much tread wear I can expect driving say 1300 kms (812 miles) at 60+ degree temperatures on the LM 22's

Anyone have an idea?

for the brief amount of snow you would possibly run into, i wouldnt run the snow tires fot that trip. i say put the EL 42's on! you will eat up the snow tires with that much driving, especially a prolonged drive like that and the hotter the weather the faster they will wear. i did that 3 or so years ago (i didnt switch for thr trip to florida) and it ate the he!! out of my pilot alpins.
id switch. just my .02

The LM22s are H rated and probably a better handling and riding tire than the rim-protector EL42s. Yes, 4,000 miles will be a lot of wear on 20k mi life snows.

On the other hand, if you get caught in a storm you will be ok. Over half your route is subject to heavy snows in February. In an Ohio blizzard in February, the EL42s are a body shop advertisement.

fsttyms1...I dont mind some wear on the snows especially if it means piece on mind if we get caught in snow. I just didnt want to have them overheat and blow up...Im pretty sure that wont happen.

DavidNJ...Appreciate the information on the snow probability in February...I think its with worth the wear and tear on the snows especially since Im paranoid to start with

Thanks for the advice guys!

I'd go with the EL's but avoid I-77 or anywhere going through mountains.
