Cool Tinted Windows TL-S 2007

Hi every one;

i have a 2007 TL Type S. I went to get my windows tinted this weekend; i was told that the door panels needed to be removed. Otherwise, the tints will get scratch, with a vertical line. I have done tinted windows before from this place; and they are very professional. I am a little bit skeptical about removing the door panels. Does any one here know whether this true or not? Thanks.

Door panels do not have to be removed.

They must be talking about installing the felt/moleskin to prevent the scratching. Other than that there is no reason to remove the door panels for tinting.

im guessing its to put the moleskin on, which i think you have to remove the door panel for. if the tint shop knew they had to do that, its a pretty good sign because a lot of shops don't know what moleskin is and the tint problems with our tl's.

thanks for your replies guys; they just told me that the door panels needed to come off; otherwise the tints will get scratched. I 'm not sure what moleskin is; i'm not installing any fancy tints, just regular 35% black tints.

i should have mentioned, do i need to install the felt/moleskin to prevent the scratching or no? do you guys think is necessary or no? i think Ashkooly said that "this seems to be a problem with our tl's."

I recommend the moleskin to prevent scratches. A lot of members have had issues with scratched tint. Moleskin prevents that. Better to be safe than sorry. I installed the moleskin myself, it's not hard. You can install it after the tint has been installed. Just don't roll the windows down until you've installed the moleskin.

Hi all again; so I asked the place where i took my car to get the tints done, if they were going to install the felt to prevent the scratches and if that was the reason why they needed to remove the door panels. they told me that they were not going to install the felt, but rather they were going to remove some plastic or hard rubber that supposedly is what causes the tints scratches. i was really skeptical about this, so i decided not to get tints done yet. I'm afraid if they do this it can cause issues later; or void my warranty. "LoveMyTL-S" mentioned that you have installed the Moleskin felt; would you be able to give me some advise on where they need to be installed, maybe i can get this people to do it; or better yet, do it my self. some pictures would be very helpful, i guess that would be asking to much. But any help would be very much appreciated. thank you all. again this is been done in a 2007 TL Type-S. don't think there would be any differences with the earlier models (2004-2006), but you never know.

just take it somewhere else where they do it. the place i took it to is right across the street from an acura dealership and they do alot of tints for acuras. i went in and they told me i needed the moleskin before i even asked if they do it. cost like 20$ more for the moleskin.

You ABSOLUTELY need moleskin if you get your windows tinted. No exceptions.

I got my windows tinted on my 07 Type S and did not have moleskin or whatever that stuff is installed. After all of the stories I hear of people getting glue all over there tint everytime they lower their windows, and also of people STILL getting scratches even after using moleskin. It just wasnt worth it. I have had my tints on for over a month now and they still look perfect. No reason for me to get moleskin.

^ 1 month isn't enough time...give it a year. You'll definitely notice scratches.
